Game Debate to the Death!<br>Blizzard Battle 2006 photo

Last week's game debate put the all 3 of the WarCraft RTS games against one another, and everyone decided the debate was clearly between the second and third games and their corresponding expansions and online play. Here were the results:

  • WarCraft I - 0 votes
  • WarCraft II - 13 votes - winner!
  • WarCraft III - 12 votes

So why didn't I include StarCraft in the Blizzard boxing match? Because I was saving it for this week! My goal was to figure out which of the three WarCraft games was everyone's favorites, but since the voting was so close, and since StarCraft has a huge fan following, this week is Warcraft I, II, and III versus StarCraft. That's right, 3 vs 1. If you walked up to a free bargain bin and these four Blizzard games were sitting there waiting to be snatched up, which of the four would you grab first?

As always, weigh the pros and cons, pick which game you enjoyed the most, tell us why, and get some friends of yours to vote! Check back next week for the winner, and also for the next installment of the Dtoid Blizzard Battle 06.

I'd go with Warcraft II as long as the expansion was with it. I already have StarCraft and WCIII so I'd just work my way back.

ive gotta go with starcraft, one of my favorite games of all time - ive always had a pirated version and have always wanted to play on battlenet
i like the future/space setting of starcraft more than the lotr setting of warcraft

I'm not a big RTS fan, but I do enjoy the genre now and then.. usually when Blizzard does it. Of all Blizzard's RTS games I gotta vote for Starcraft, although it wasn't a completely easy choice - i really did love Warcraft II.

But starcraft gives 3 full playable campaigns and a top notch story and interface. starcraft is without a doubt a game that stands the test of time, with still a ton of people who love to play it because it's a damn good game. and that's what games are all about - we all owe blizzard big time for this game that's taken countless hours of our lives and replaced them with pure fun.

Vote: StarCraft

i actually enjoy warcraft's setting a lot more, which is why it feels a lil weird voting for starcraft, but after seeing world of warcraft it sure does feel like weve seen a lot more of the universe. it's hard to look back 10 years and see ourselves looking forward in the future to now and not realizes world of warcraft was on the way.

I'm a huge fan of Warcraft II and III, so I'm going to have to go with that. It's pretty obvious that Starcraft will win this debate though.

Starcraft is awesome, but I just love the hero aspect of WC3.

But then I remember the amazing storyline in SC, and shamelessly hop onto the bandwagon.

SC is my vote. :(

I have to go with Starcraft here, brother. Few games that I have have ever gotten the amount of play that Starcraft has. Excellent story, cool units and endless strategy, Starcraft has it all!

Totally Starcraft. Friends and I would get together and play FFAs all night. Warcraft III was too slow for me and the limited unit count meant that if you lost a battle you usually lost the war.

Hatchery farms FTW!!!

I second what Fronz said. Although if it were Diablo in question, I'd be all over that. For this debate, I gotta go with StarCraft.

My vote goes to StarCraft. It was the first Bliz game to have truly individual sides that were 'well' balanced... eventually. WC3 was great and all, but to me, it just seemed like a graphical overhaul of starcraft. From the campaign editor to the races, it just didn't have the impact that starcraft had on me.

My vote is for Starcraft, not only was the gameplay fun but it had some of the best cut scenes in a game ever. "Thank God for Cold Fusion"

Starcraft. All three races were very different but you could balance all three factions on a thumb tack. Warcraft III had no such luck.

Hands down, Starcraft. The game has the best rts story line that I have ever played through, of course, that is just my opinion. While I havn't played Warcraft 1 and 2, I do own 3. I wasn't swept away by the storyline (though it did have a great story as well), mainly I just played on battlenet for the custom made games. Now, if only Starcraft had the same battlenet capabilities that WC3 had...

If it's Warcraft II and Beyond the Dark Portal vs. just Starcraft, then WC.
If Starcraft includes Brood Wars, then still WC

Starcraft definitely. The story. The missions. The units. Kerrigan. Zerg. Brood War.

Why does it have to be Diablo3?????? Why not Starcraft 2???

Red Alert Command and Conquer

Never got into Starcraft or Warcraft guess its just not my thing
what they need is a RTS where all your players are characters from FPS's!
that would be the SHeeT!

I would say starcraft. I wasn't a fan of the early warcraft games as they were the same units just different colors back in the day. W3 is really good, but star craft just was so good back in the day and I still find myself talking about it every once in the while.
