Game Debate to the Death!<br>Aladdin VS NBA Jam photo

Last week, we ran with a slightly modified version of the famous game debate in the movie Billy Madison, and sure enough, we had plenty of people telling each other that they sucked. While the debate was neck-and-neck at first, it didn't take too long for a clear winner to break free and advance into the next round of this three-week Sega Genesis/SNES odd debate series. Here are the results:

  • Donkey Kong Country (56 votes) -- Winner!
  • Mortal Kombat II (24 votes) -- Fatality!

This week we have an even more odd matchup in store for us, as we argue over a sidescrolling platformer and an exaggerated sports game. Both games were addictively famous in their day, each with a wall of unique pros and very few cons. Don't forget, the point of these odd debates is not to just vote hastily with your gut and state the obvious. It instead forces us to be more analytical and evaluate what we truly enjoyed or disliked about a game without realizing it at the time.

Looking back many years ago, which game do you think is better, and why? Give it some serious thought, get some SNES and Genesis friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner, who will compete against Donkey Kong Country in the finals.

Bonus Questions: What was your favorite level in Aladdin? Who were your favorite players in NBA Jam?

My vote is for Aladdin - it was made by the same developer that did Earthworm Jim.

I do have fond memories of lighting up threes with the big white guy from the Golden State Warriors - he's unstoppable.

NBA Jam!

Hell yes! I broke the backboard left and right against my friends. Dunking from half court was so much fun. So many different players to choose from and tons of secrets that make the game even more fun than it already is.

Aladdin is a fun game, but come on. Its Disney, that shit was lame when I was in the 4th grade and it still is if you ask me.

The way I came to my decision; if both were on the Wii VC for the same price, I'd download Aladdin first without thinking.

Don't get me wrong, I love NBA Jam. I hate sports games, but if I'm going to play one, I like it to have these sort of fantastical elements to it. I mean, that's why it's a GAME right? As many fond memories as I have playing NBA Jam with my cousins, I'm going to have to go with Aladdin. I love Disney, so I may be a bit biased. But the visuals and animation in that game were really incredible for their time. The levels varied the gameplay nicely, and it was just a more challenging and rewarding experience overall. Both games are classics in their own right, and have oodles of replay value, but I'm going to stick to my guns on this one.

Now do a debate on which version of Aladdin is best :)

Aladdin. I liked near the end when Jeffar turns into that dragon thing... my memories are foggy but you know what I'm talking about.

Aladdin, the cave of wonders level was so much fun especially when you had to grab the genies beard and his eyes would bug out. Great game.

I think I'm going to go with NBA Jam. While I loved Aladdin, I would say that I am probably more likely to go back and play NBA Jam, just because it has more of an arcadey feel.

NBA Jam.

I used Will Smith and Robert Horry at the same time, because they look alike!

For regular teams, I always picked the Golden State Warriors because none of the guys had red stats.
