Game Debate to the Death! 3 most anticipated games of 2008? photo

In our last debate, we wanted to know what your favorite game of 2007 was. It was a heated discussion, with over one hundred votes cast for dozens of different games, but the only close competition was the fight for second place:

  • 1ST Place: The Orange Box (41 votes) & specifically Portal (16 votes)
  • 2ND Place: Super Mario Galaxy (14 votes)
  • 3RD Place: Tie (12 votes each) -- BioShock, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4
  • 4TH Place: Rock Band (7 votes)
  • 5TH Place: Halo 3 (5 votes)

This week we take on another huge debate topic: your most anticipated games of 2008. Since there's so many to choose from, I want you all to narrow it down to three ranked choices. No more, no less. Give it some serious consideration and please avoid naming multiple games as your number one favorite, because this week your ranked votes will count for more than one point. Your first place pick will get 3 points, second will receive 2, and third will get 1 point. To kick things off in an organized manner, here's my three picks:

  • 1st: GTA IV
  • 2nd: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • 3rd: LittleBigPlanet
  • Honorable Mentions: Mario Kart Wii and Castle Crashers

Feel free to add as many honorable mentions as you'd like, but only the top three picks will be counted for points, and only if you label the three picks as first, second, and third. And most importantly, tell us why you're so eager to play the games you listed, and what your expectations for them are. The more we know you guys are excited for a certain game, the more attention we'll try to give those games over the next year. Get some gamer buddies to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winners!

Games I'm most looking forward to, in no particular order, are: Brütal Legend, Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village, Lego Batman, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (X360 remake/update), Apollo Justice, and Fallout 3.

Honorable mentions include: Condemned 2: Bloodshot, Spore, and Left 4 Dead.

Games that might force me to purchase a PS3 are: Little Big Planet, Petal Rear Squalid Door, and Talladega Nights 2.

Game that I am ALWAYS hoping will be released this year: Earthbound 2/Mother 3 in english.

Am I looking forward to some of the other A-listers that folks have mentioned already? Absolutely; I just happen to be one of the unlucky few (depending on how you look at it) that's restricted to PC gaming alone. Ho hum.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was the reason I bought a PS3. I've been a huge fan since the first Metal Gear Solid. Final Fantasy is way up there for me too. It is one of my favorite series. Lastly, I've beaten Phoenix Wright 1 & 2 (will beat 3 soon) and absolutely love them. I never would've thought a game based around courtrooms could be so fun.

1. Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core (I've actually already marked myself off from work the day this game comes out, and possibly the day after as well so I get some damn good time with this game.)

2. Devil May Cry 4 : Collector's Edition for 360 (I love me some Dante.)

3. Final Fantasy XIII (This, among a few other RPGs is what will make me throw down the cash for a PS3)

As hard as it is for me to admit to looking forward to a game, there are a few that really do sound interesting, so here we go.

1. Heavy Rain
2. Fallout 3
3. Wii Fit

Yeah, there are other games I know I'll enjoy, like Resident Evil 5, Burnout Paradise, Smash Brothers. There are games that are still dubious for me, but I might end up liking (Lost Odyssey, Metal Gear Solid 4), and I'm sure plenty of stuff I had no idea I'd like but end up being really psyched on.

Smash Bros. Brawl has been hyped and then pushed back so many times now that i'm jaded over it. I'll play it when it comes out. In the meantime i'll not give a damn.

I am definitely looking forward to LittleBigPlanet the most of any game in 2008. It's one of the reasons I bought a PS3 to begin with.

And why?

Brawl - It will be a perfect game (or damn close). Famitsu already thinks so. While it may not be as competitive as Melee, it will be an amazing game that will last for years to come.

SCII - StarCraft has been long overdue for a sequel, and Blizzard has a great track record, so this game should be nothing short of AMAZING.

No More Heroes - This game came out of nowhere and wowed me, something that doesn't happen often. Definitely going to be picking this up.

(This game has looked beautiful and amazing ever since I first knew about it... years ago. The ideas, the style, the customization features all easily make Sport my number one choice for 2008)

2: Super Smash Bro's Brawl

(I've been in love with the Smash Bro's games ever since the N64 version. This game will be great, the thought of all the characters and levels overwhelms me. It's awesome that they can put it all into one game.)

3: Ninja Gaiden 3

(Ok, you've seen the video's... what's not to want about this game. Oh wow I can not wait to play it. Decapitate your enemy in 40 different ways!)
