Game Debate to the Death! 3 most anticipated games of 2008? photo

In our last debate, we wanted to know what your favorite game of 2007 was. It was a heated discussion, with over one hundred votes cast for dozens of different games, but the only close competition was the fight for second place:

  • 1ST Place: The Orange Box (41 votes) & specifically Portal (16 votes)
  • 2ND Place: Super Mario Galaxy (14 votes)
  • 3RD Place: Tie (12 votes each) -- BioShock, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4
  • 4TH Place: Rock Band (7 votes)
  • 5TH Place: Halo 3 (5 votes)

This week we take on another huge debate topic: your most anticipated games of 2008. Since there's so many to choose from, I want you all to narrow it down to three ranked choices. No more, no less. Give it some serious consideration and please avoid naming multiple games as your number one favorite, because this week your ranked votes will count for more than one point. Your first place pick will get 3 points, second will receive 2, and third will get 1 point. To kick things off in an organized manner, here's my three picks:

  • 1st: GTA IV
  • 2nd: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • 3rd: LittleBigPlanet
  • Honorable Mentions: Mario Kart Wii and Castle Crashers

Feel free to add as many honorable mentions as you'd like, but only the top three picks will be counted for points, and only if you label the three picks as first, second, and third. And most importantly, tell us why you're so eager to play the games you listed, and what your expectations for them are. The more we know you guys are excited for a certain game, the more attention we'll try to give those games over the next year. Get some gamer buddies to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winners!

Bonus: Can you name every game I added in the picture above? I attached the higher resolution version below.

Grand Theft Auto 4, meeeeng!

I'm prepping myself for the lovable satirical humor that Rockstar always delivers on. Also, the best open-world sandbox franchise to date.

SSBB, GTA4, Patapon
Ikaruga, Rez and Goldeneye would be my top re-releases for PSN/XBLA/VC if Nintendo would stop being so emo about Rare being owned by Microsoft.

1. Brawl
2. Disgaea 3 (strangely, the only thing that might compel me to get a PS3)
3. No More Heroes

The first is a no brainer for me--melee is one of my favorite games ever, and brawl is dripping with so much epic its a bit overwhelming. Afternoon of Darkness got me playing my PSP again (almost too much, in fact :-P) so I have high hopes for 3. NMH is one of the reasons I finally decided to pick up a wii--im hoping for a bizarre-er, more lightswordy, and hopefully less brutal version of god hand.

Realistically though, my '07 backlog is probably enough to keep me going for years ;-)

1. LittleBigPlanet - because my friends and i are always over each other's houses playing games, and if it lives up to its potential it could seriously be the last game we need for a LONG while.

2. Metal Gear Solid 4 - because it's fucking MGS.

3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - similar reason to LBP... we still play SSB Melee to this day.

I'm hoping for some mind-blowing game announcements in the coming months. I'm really not that excited about 2008. The only games I'm *really* excited for are #'s 1 and 2. The Honorable Mentions are basically just games I'm interested in and kind of crossing my fingers about.

Lots of great picks so far, and things seem to be varied for the most part. Last year seemed like I was playing a lot of single player games, but 2008 looks like it will have a lot of multiplayer party games to offer.

@NihonTiger90: Awesome start, but I counted 24 games in the picture, so you've still got 8 more to go. You took out a big chunk though.

1) Super Smash Bros. Brawl

More fan service, more features and more replay value than SSBM.Brawl is literally made to be bigger and better.
Excited? I know I am.

2) No More Heroes

Stylish, cool, violent, perverted, funny, and disturbing... it must be an original title from the crazy mind of Suda 51. Did I mention how good the controls are supposed to be ? A original third-party title that's actually fun and worth buying.Support Grasshopper Manufacture and BUY THIS GAME !!!

3) Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

Ninja Gaiden + Good graphics + Fast paced-gameplay + Slick Stylus controls = Awesome.

Honorable mentions: Mario Kart Wii, Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, Okami

I like Mario Kart and with online play, it should be great on the Wii. However, we just don't know much about it yet. Also, its anyone's guess as to whether or not the driving wheel peripheral will make the experience fun or terrible. After all, the Zapper peripheral wasn't such a good idea.

Hopefully, Oboro Muramasa Youtouden will be released outside of Japan. So far, the hand drawn 2D visuals look beautiful and I'm all for some good ol' fashion 2D gameplay.

Okami + Wii controls = Match made in Heaven ?
We'll have to wait and see.

Ah, I've got to give an honorable mention to White Knight as well. I don't think we've seen enough yet to know what to fully expect, but it does look really promising. Spore should be fun as well, but I'd rather not even think about that game until it's finally out.
