Game Boy never sounded better than with this Spanish gold
Euros did crazy sh*t with videogame music; this is a well established point by now with legendary folks such as Chris Hülsbeck, Rob Hubbard, Reyn Ouwehand and Tim Follin walking this fine earth and crunching out the most insane music back in the day. But there is another name that belongs in that celebrated string of legends: Alberto González. Growing up I had many of his games like Asterix and Bomb Jack, and took the man for granted as one of the best and most recognizable videogame composers. But as I've come to learn over the years, his name never traveled much outside of the European territories. Luckily González has us covered and can help rectify this crime. He recently opened his own SoundCloud account and has started remastering and uploading not only the full soundtracks to his games, but also the full soundtracks to games that were cancelled and went unreleased! Check out some of the samples below, and do make sure you at least check out Smurf's Nightmare about eight minutes in. Seriously one of the greatest songs composed on a Game Boy. González stopped composing game music around 2002, but he's still very much active in the videogame industry being the lead designer at Abylight, the studio behind the award winning AfterZoom game on DSiWare.
