Gallery: Large 3DS Mii trade gathering in Akihabara photo

Today in Tokyo's Akihabara geek district, in front of the massive Akiba Yodobashi department store, several 3DS owners gathered and quietly their new game system with others, Wireless Mode On. Many gamers, myself included, all gathered to exchange Miis through the Street Pass system. If you just got your system, today was a perfect day to wrangle up a bunch of interactions to get Miis for Street Pass Quest warriors and Street Pass Puzzle pieces. So many people were gathered that more showed up to join in the fun with DS and DSi systems.

Several dozen showed up, as you'll see in the above picture. You'll also see that Pikachu showed up. Okay, so Pikachu didn't come to trade Miis. That was another event.

On the Mii trading: So many people were coming in and out of the store front area toward this meeting place that I had to select the renew option in the Mii Plaza application four times in a row. I kept on getting more Miis!

Between Akiba this morning, a lunch with a friend in Roppongi, and a dinner in Ebisu, today was a massive success for gathering puzzle pieces and amassing warriors to fight for me. I have a few almost-full puzzles in Street Pass Puzzle, and I'm going on the seventh dungeon in Street Pass Quest. A couple more weekends like this and Nintendo will have to come up for some new social Street Pass games for Tokyo residents. We'll have beaten them all!

Holy hell, you're right, Dale!

Also, the Oshawott in the second Pikachu picture is looking at me hungry and it's making me uncomfortable.

Awesome, StreetPass provide a new way for gamers to enjoy a game, and game coins encourage gamers to take 3DS out. 3DS might not be the most powerful handheld in the world, but it is the most interesting one for sure!

So Dale, do you have thousands of Mii's in your Plaza now?

I'm don't think im sure exactly how this works... How can you still not have completed a puzzle after so may people you met?

floameh - it's kinda silly. If those miis don't have a piece you need, nothing happens

Do those people interact with each other in any way (other than having 3DS exchanging data)?
It would be kinda weird if all Street Pass manages to do is just getting people outdoor.

Also, I wonder if this would be a good way of picking up chicks. lol

Just to show'em people that video games don't make you a recluse! (because there are some who still believe that)

This sounds so great; hopefully some kind of event will be held similarly across the US.

It's cool to see such public interaction. The most we get in the US is conventions full of sweaty guys who don't understand the concept of soap.

"Public interaction"? It looks like a lot if people being alone together, if that makes any sense. Sitting and wordlessly staring at your DS next to someone else who is doing the same is public interaction, huh?

Maybe I'm getting the wrong impression from the pictures, though.

The guy on the left is a failure. He is holding his 3DS sideways, and unless he is playing Brain Age or Rhythm Heaven, I'm not sure he should be.

First, if the Etruscans were indeed Trojans, then the fact that the Magliano disk is the only object resembling the Phaistos disk clearly suggests that they came from the same cultural tradition, though perhaps some 700 years apart--i.e., that the Phaistos disk is Trojan.
