GALAK-Z trailer looks all kinds of crazy

4:30 PM on 08.11.2013

I'll admit I'm a sucker for a good old classic shooter. To me, there's nothing more cathartic than unleashing a barrage of missiles or a screen filling laser onto an unsuspecting swarm of enemy fighters. Radiant Silvergun, Gradius, and the Don Don Pachi series are just a few of my favorites, but I may just have to make room for GALAK-Z if this announcement trailer is any indication of what's to come.

From 17-bit Studios, the minds behind Skulls of the Shogun, this 16-bit inspired sci-fi shooter looks pretty promising. Touted as an AI and Newtonian physics driven, open-world, space shoot em' up (damn that sounds pretty awesome!) GALAK-Z is making its mark first on the PS4 sometime in 2014.

I also really dig the old-school anime vibe running through the trailer with the pilot avatar in the corner and Gundam-esque enemy robots complete with energy swords!

Looks like Sony has another indie win on its hands.

Galak-Z explores the nooks and crannies of space

"It's the perfect game for fans of 80's anime," 17-Bit's Raj Joshi told me about Galak-Z before I was given a chance to play it. Admittedly, it seemed like a weird statement at the time. At first glance, the Asteroids-esque ...more

Checking in with Renegade Kid on Moon, Cult County, and more

Holmes had an extra long interview with Renegade Kid's Jools Watsham during PAX East, and it covers all the games the small studio is currently working on. It's a nice showcase of every thing they got going on, and biggest of all is Cult County. It's their upcoming survival horror game, and there's just under two weeks left on their Kickstarter.more

Tetropolis is Tetris crossed with Castlevania

There's a headline I never expected to write. Like ever. But that's Tetropolis for you! Tetropolis sees you playing as those iconic falling blocks, going through levels and exploring the things that need to be explored. The ...more

See why Mushroom 11 was one of my favorite games at PAX East

Alex Bruce, the man behind Antichamber, was at PAX East with no game to show off at all. He was simply there purely to help out other indies. I saw a lot of indies supporting other indies at PAX, as a matter of fact. In this...more
