When Valve announced that they were pulling their Portal 2 event from E3, promising that a "surprise" would be there in its place, the Internet did what the Internet does: It immediately went ablaze with speculation that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 actually exists in a demonstrable capacity suited for public display and would be present at the big show next week.
Seriously, the only thing the Internet is good for is guessing when the next Half-Life game is coming. Note that I said, "good for," and not, "good at."
In a succinct e-mail, Gabe Newell has confirmed that the "surprise" is not Half-Life 2: Episode 3. So, there it is, Internet. Wrong again. You're just going to have to go back to your second love of pornography to mend your bruised ego.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

No, but seriously, I know Valve takes their time and makes amazing games, but DAYUMN!
Seriously, its been almost 6 years since HL2, and almost 3 since Episode 2. I think we need to downgrade the title to Quarter Life.
I don't think there would be anywhere safe in the world from the intense whining of butt-hurt gamers if that were true. However, I trust Valve enough to say that even if they did do L4D3, I'd buy it, because it would have god reason to exist, like 2.
Valve are a progressive developer; they can't go on using a six year old graphics engine forever, they know that as well as we do. As I believe, Hl2 was the first Valve game to use the Source Engine.
It would make a lot of sense if Half Life 3 was the first game to use a new engine.
But honestly, L4D3 FTW.
Oh, and when there's no ep3. It's not that the world still cares so much about it after 3-6 years of waiting. I played the original Hl2 last week and I think it still is a great game but it's not the end of the world.
Still, I don't understand why they are treating the Hl franchise like that. Oh well, we'll see at E3.
My world still cares about it but I will take Half-Life 3 over Episode 3 if it continues the fecking story
That or L4D3.
Left 4 Dead 3 isn't going to happen so soon bit I'd still be pumped for that too.
1) It could just as well be fake.
2) If it's not fake... Do you really think Gabe would say that it IS EP3 no matter what?

Sure, the Freeman poster probably isn't real, but that doesn't really say anything about EP3 or not.
So I'm still hoping.
Yeah. A trick. Gotta be a trick.
And has anyone seen the latest TF2 blog with the comic?
Look at his muscles and fist.
That leaves me asking, who is up for some Day of Defeat 2!
Monthly episodes.
Nowhere did Gabe Newell confirm that it wasn't happening. He confirmed that this picture was a fake. This one picture. This picture can be a fake and they could still announce it, because...I'd imagine Valve announcing it by patching a new post credits bit into Ep. 2 the day before E3. Not like this.
So he confirms it's fake, but not that Ep. 3 isn't happening, or won't be at E3. And considering who Valve is, there's still hope!
Monthly episodes.
lol
How you got "no Half Life 2: Episode 3" out of "that image is fake" is beyond me.
If that email is real, which there is also no indication (although I am inclined to believe that the Freeman image is fake anyways) all it is saying is that the image is fake, i.e. not made by Valve.
At the very, very least, this could mean that the "surprise" isn't HL2:E3. Doesn't mean HL2:E3 isn't gonna be there.

From the link:
"Further confirmation from Gabe Newell to our staff writer DigiQ8 has hopefully put to bed any further doubt. However we do still do look forward to the Portal 2 related surprise!"
HL EP3 isn't happening. Which, I pretty much knew once people start speculating.

...wow, surprising how many other people got to that conclusion too.
