this guy is a jackass who doesnt know what HD blueray means, how sony gives us way more bang for the buck with the ps3. 2 times faster than the 360 in processing power, way more storage space on blueray and the bigger hds they pack in. way better first party games and exclusives. rpgs that matter.

i bought a ps3 for blue ray, ps2, ps3 games, to watch videos streamed from my dnla server on my mac. this is what next gen is to me, hd media center! that plays great games, free net, online gaming that doesnt suck and and has dedicated servers unlike 360 live bs.

to me a console that breaks every time a good game comes out is a complete waste of money. or a system with last gen graphics ps2 ports and gimmicky controls is a waste of money even if its just 250... sure the wii has a gob of games that are exclusive, but how many of them are actually deep and good? i bet 0. metroid and zelda..

Well, profit is pretty important to devs and publishers, I'd think. Don't blow him off simply because he's ranting about bottom line dollars. They're more important than how cool you think the functionality of X and Y are.

lets not forget that organge box is not next gen at all its a pc port of a game that came out ages ago. its no big feat anymore its 3 + years dated, so yeah ,their crap next gen pc engine will not run well on anything like cell, what should be redone is their crap pc code to fit the ps3. he knows jack shit..

he has a very valid point. designing around the core is a different beast than designing around typical multi-processors. why do all that work to make a product complaint with a device that has such a small share of the marketplace? the profits just aren't there. the process for developing for PC/360 is very similar, requiring minimal adjustments on the part of the developers. the ps2's market share is the only reason devs pushed on, and learned to code for thier device. without the marketshare, there is no reason to invest in utilities to design around it. without utilities to design for the processor, devs will stop creating games for the ps3 when they can more easily create games that can be sold for the pc and the 360.

i love my ps3. and it is delivering for me. i'm not the type that runs out and buys everything, i only want to play the cream of the crop stuff. and the ps3 has way more of that from way better studios like naughty dog, insomniac etc etc...

not a sony fan boy all the way, but most of the way. they have made the best systems to day. to me, ps1, ps2, and ps3 are better than anything ever made before or during their reigns... simple as that to me..

Well, whatever. I just finished the last level of Halo 3 about 20 minutes ago (bought it late), and can't think of anything on PS3 that would give me the feeling I was having. What tech is better is irrelevant. BioShock and Halo 3 blew me away like nothing else.

You prefered PS2 over XBox (as did I), that's proof that tech doesn't come into it. Xbox had more potential but the games just weren't there. I think the reverse is quite true this gen.

Ah yes, the old no good games argument. Reistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, and Warhawk, all in year 1. That doesn't seem that bad to me.

@SavedHeart: iD has fallen from their prime. They no longer create quality games, but remake crap with new graphics and call it revolutionary. The Source Engine and the crytech engine both blew the shit out of the doom 3 engine.

Plus, when did he say the PS3 was hard. It's harder than the PC and 360, which is an absolute, unarguable truth. It's a newer technology, and one which Valve specifically has no experience with. Maybe they should start working on porting it to the Phantom too... When you run a multi-billion dollar business, you can make the choice of investing in the PS3. Until then... take the decision, or leave it.

I'm not sure I agree with hexfix93 on the raw processing power of the PS3 being twice that of the 360, but it's got to be at least a little more powerful underneath the hood.

Those complaining about the games. I have more games on my PS3 than I can manage this fall. If you're ripping through these games in days and getting bored you're either without a life or just that good. That just means you need more than one system. In my experience it seems to me that Sony's fall lineup is pretty quality stuff. Warhawk is great fun. Heavenly Sword is pretty as hell and has an epic story. Ratchet and Clank should be good. That's at least three exclusive titles out there this fall. I'm still not finished playing Heavenly Sword and Warhawk will keep me busy for a long time.

On topic though. Gabe's economic argument does make sense. From a business standpoint it would be way better to build a game for both the 360 and PC simultaneously and just port the code in a compiler and be done. You'd have a little more work to tweak the controller systems, but you wouldn't have to build two games from scratch.

I believe that Sony has a huge responsibility to make coding for the Cell easier and more efficient. If they don't put out some quality kits for 3rd parties to get their stuff out, their market share will drop even more. At that point the PS3 will be useful as a Blu-Ray player and little else. And, that's only a good thing if Blu-Ray wins out over HDDVD and digital distribution.

I honestly don't think that Sony will let this happen. I think they had their asses handed to them and they're working to fix it around the clock, while at the same time trying to save face by not apologizing. At least that's how I see it.

That wasn't your question, you asked what game makers supported Mac, and it's ID, as well as a LOT of other game makers, from the sims guys, to Microsoft and Lucas Arts... people might not PLAY games on the mac, but it doesn't mean that others don't support it, get your head out of your azz before you keep making statements like that.

As far as take it or leave it... umm... that's the sort of thinking that gets companies ruined... and weather or not steam is good or bad (have you been there since... umm ever, @ Nunbuns or whatever... it's been grown and then some). I'd rather be playing HL4 on my PS3 than reading a writeup in GI about the good old days at this company called Valve, before it went under...

Finally, @hexfix, Here Here... Learning is a part of life, programmers doubly so. If they don't want to, then just say so, but don't make it that it's too hard to program for (which is almost a direct quote) or a waste of time to do (because your fans own them, get over it..). Again, I call for gabe to man up, and just tell us what's got his thong stuck up his butt... not feed us some BS and shine it with a xbox rag.

As far as DVD-BluRay, think back to the arguments people used to have about VHS-DVD? Same old story. I play on an extremely nice TV with an extremely nice surround sound system, and the difference for me between DVD and BluRay is drastic. I'm sorry that your 13" TV/VCR combo doesn't allow you to experience all the benefits of BluRay.
