Are hardcore Nintendo Wii fans experiencing a drought right now? I suppose it depends on how fast go through your games, but one could certainly argue that no heavy-hitting consoles are going to be on the shelves for a little bit. Yes, Paper Mario is just around the corner, but where's all that juicy stuff from Destructoid's most anticipated Wii games of 2007?  (crickets)

This and other topics questioning the system's strong launch were explored by G4's Attack Of The Show as Kevin Pereira played Devil's Advocate for the hungry fans upset by delayed first party top franchises and painfully slow Virtual Console releases. In defense of the Wii was Kotaku associate editor Michael McWhertor, who in preparation instructed the internet to make fun of his beard and fashion style ... but it kinda knocks the wind of our sails when he knows it's coming. You did good, Mike. Damn you!

Let's open this up to discussion -- who won this debate? Would you have said anything different in the Wii's defense or against it? WWRSD?

Damn the wii, for now games like metroid corruption and mario will be a different experience but after that it will be another cube.

Summa would have yelled SHUT UP at Kevin six or seven times. Then somehow Ron would appear and start talking about bangin' Olivia in an uncomfortable position.

I don't think either side really was out to say "I'm the winner and you're not!" Moreso it was just to futher elaborate on the two extreme sides. Kevin put it best, Nintendo nailed their launch, now they just need to follow up all that jive talk with some actualy substance.

Oh yeah...and distribute more god damn systems.

Right....Just like the DS is just another GameBoy.

You're right that "they" aren't. One of them is. I shouldn't say fascist, 'cause that's a political thing and he has a right to do whatever he wants with his own forum or whatever. But he's a dick.

I think that one guy hit it on the nose. Devs were not too concerned with the Wii and didn't foresee it being the success that it is becoming. So now, they're caught with their pants down with no titles that really capitalize on the drought we might be seeing the first half of this year.

The better question to ask is: Will developers now take the console seriously and make 08' the year of the Wii?

Going off what Bluefusion said...I have been saying this for quite some time. I suspect in the nearish future (maybe at least 6 months) we see a FLOOD of Wii games.

3rd parties thought nothing of the Wii and labeled it as a GameCube, then they saw the level of saturation it has in the market nad released the potential and now they are like, "can I make a game?"

And about the drought....I have been asking this many times before, can someone pull up the statistics on PS2, 360, and PS3 games that were released 4 months after the system? I mean yes there isn't TONS of games but did all the other systems have TONs of games 4 months out?

Blindside definitely has a point.
It took time for developers (third party anyway) to figure out the ds and it is going to take time for them to figure out the wii. When they (devs)do it is going to be a good thing.
I dont really hear any complaints about graphics on ds I hear more about people not using their lumines machine
Oblivion took time to come out after launch for 360, Dead Rising, GRAW all of these were games that weren't out until months after launch for imo the most solid console as of now games, online, and functionality
I have faith the wii will pull through and be more solid than the gamecube
Nintendo Religion FTW

This has been my argument about the Wii from the beginning. I guess everyone buys it, but how much software are they moving? Seriously, does anyone know the attach rate for the Wii?

I don't think anyone foresaw that Msoft would look like the smart one for releasing their console a year early, but with a healthy, steady supply of games coming out over the next year, and with Wii and PS3 fans looking like they'll be waiting until next Christmas to get their hands on anything worth a shit, I know what console I'm happy to be owning right now.

They could've cut that segment down to just what Kevin was saying at the end. And maybe that can stop giving olivia lines. (or just lines of coke...that'd be kinda interesting to watch).

I want to buy a Wii based on the game lineup they have right now, nevermind the titles on the horizon. I've decided to wait on the PlayStation 3 until the system gets at least two or three games I actually give a damn about. Where does this 'the Wii's a dud' talk come from? If anything, the PS3 has been the dud thus far, but I don't think anybody expected that to be the case.

I think pretty much every concern they had was valid, and Mike even made concessions to the other side. I'm just hoping that the Wii does follow the DS model, and that third-parties get on board soon. (And not support Wii like Ubisoft does.)

Also, if Wii had a new must-have game every 2-3 weeks, on top of games for other systems, I'd be broke and flunked out of college.

Why does everyone keep going on about a Wii drought? Has anyone taken a look at the PS3 lineup recently?

Hasn't it been only 3 monthes after the launch? You know what I think it is is that everyone bought a Wii, loved it, and desires more Wii goodness right now. I think why people think there is a drought is because everybody wants to play with their Wii, pun intended, and allready finished all the games that came at launch.

Im still playing the games that released at launch. Right now, Trauma Center and Excite truck. I have a bunch of VC games I've yet to complete. I have plenty of stuff to play if there was a drought.

Which there isnt. Wii play is something I want to get for the remote. Paper Mario in April. SSX Blur, MK, Godfather and Manhunt are games im interested in playing that will come out in the near future. I got plenty of stuff to play.

Didn't everyone cream their pants at the possibility of Okami on the Wii. Especially since nobody has even played it! God-beard-Kotaku-Dude said it best. "The 3rd parties got caught with their pants down." They'll all be onboard sooner or later. Let's not forget that Capcom gave Nintendo the greatest Resident Evil ever. And they did it on that cube thing that's hiding somewhere behind my couch. BTW, friend codes FTL. But that's another subject.

the DS had one of the worst droughts in console history now look at it. I mean, there were only two playable games (warioware and mario) for what, 8 months?

people will be pissing themselves again when metroid and galaxy come out. I think galaxy may be the best game ever made

I just checked out the game schedule for wii. Pretty droughtless.

This week:Wii Play (first party)
Next week: Sonic (exclusive, right?)
Week after that: SSX Blur (exclusive)
Week after that: Mario Party 8
Week after that: Tiger Woods (exclusive experience)
Week after that: TMNT, Cooking Mama, Prince of Persia, Godfather, Blazing angels.

I want to play every one of those, will most likely buy 3 of them, and haven't finished the games I bought at launch. That seems quite moist to me.

I think game droughts are just typical for new game consoles. I bought a PS2 the first day it came out and I ended up playing more PSone games on the thing then PS2 games for almost the first year. I vowed to never again buy a console at launch after having that experience; however I changed my mind when the Wii was going to be released. I am going to have to say compared to my previous early console adoption experience the Wii has made me very happy. I am less worried about a drought and more worried about the quality of 3rd party games a year from now.

Mike did a good job. You guys should hire him away from Kotaku. Oh and yeah I agree about the Wii. Not enough stuff to play right now though Paper Mario will be good in 2 months.
