The guys over at G4 stopped by our inbox to share some Haze videos that are going to serve as the preface to their preview of the game on X-Play tonight. While taking the game through its rounds, the staff decided that this "looker" might interest a few of you. Since we agreed, here's all three of them for your viewing pleasure. The one above takes place in the Salva Region, where your primary objective is to recover some of that good old performance-enhancing Nectar from a downed plane.
Just in case you weren't already in the know, Nectar is some mighty powerful stuff, but comes with some prettty nasty side effects. Sounds like the videogame equivalent of steriods to me, but Ubisoft is betting that PS3 owners will be climbing over each other to secure copies of the game when it's released in May. After viewing these, you just might become part of that statistic yourselves.
More goodies, after the jump:
Next on the list is a mission involving a Mantel boat and revelations of terrifying secrets. This one is referred to as "Falcon," and as you can tell, is filled with a lot of enemy smack talk.
Following up close behind is part of the Dientes de Vaca level, which highlights a vehicle section and the forward march towards an enemy stronghold.
Last but not least comes a sneak peek of a later mission towards the end of the game. In this one, we see highlights of an assault on the Mantel stronghold in Mirador del Aguila.
Now that we've seen more of what Haze has to offer, the question still remains: Is this one of the exclusive games that will further drive PlayStation 3 sales, or are we looking at yet another generic FPS to further saturate the already crowded landscape?
I'm still not ready to make a call on that one myself, but at the very least, Haze is piquing my interest. How about you? Anyway, don't forget about that preview on today's X-Play we reminded you about. Perhaps Adam and Morgan will be able to sway us one way or the other.
And.....I was right. But hey, this game's gameplay doesn't look too much different than Halo's, except, maybe just better physics. I guess that means Halo screams "UBER GENERIC" "VERY PLAIN' "NOTHING SPECIAL!!!!!"
I got to play a bit of it at PAX last year, and it's looking much better. I wish I knew a little more about the plot since the missions are like "Get Drugs!" and "Kill your enemies!" It looks like it could turn out pretty good.
Looks pretty, does look like a generic fps, but then a lot of fps get that stigma. If the multiplayer is good I'll most likely end up getting it. Not sure if it'll live up to the hype, but it looks better than what I remember.
Nectar makes enemies glow (so you can see them) and grenades have "tails" (also so you can see them).
I'll AT LEAST be renting this game. If it gets good reviews than it's a buy for me. It doesn't necessarily make me go "WHOA, HOLY CRAP I'VE NEVER SEE THAT BEFORE!" but it looks like a very solid shooter.
And this IS just a few videos here. What exactly made all of those other "non-generic" FPSs stand out in THEIR preview videos?
It's made by the Timesplitters people after all and if there's one thing they know how to do, it's how to make a good shooter.
The yellow stuff is due to the nectar. It helps you see your adversaries and dangerous items, such as grenades. Grenades don't send out a pulse seconds before they explode either now do they?
Read up, and you won't sound so retarded.
Most of the complaints, as brainderailment noted, sounds like people didn't read anything about the game. Almost like a fog of war as you find out that everything aint so pretty with out nectar and that mask.
I could belt out so many "stupid things" for so many other games that it would require a whole damn page or two.
I think the concept fo this game is pretty darn cool.
rbrooks says:lol this game sucks...unbelievable...hype will only hurt haze
what are you basing "this game sucks" on??? hype actually doesn't make a game better or worse. hype didn't make the original killzone worse than it was and hype didn't seem to make the Halo series better than it was.
stick to 1) commenting on games you've played 2) commenting on a games true value, not the media circus surrounding it. that way we don't have to read ass backwards comments and say lol that comment sucked...unbelievable.
I've been onboard for the concept of this game from day one. The video's were unamazing, but simply as a solid, thematic four person co-op fps it'll be good times. The fact that free radical is making it can only further improve that.
Like I said, though nothing I've seen is jaw-dropping, it could still be a good game. I don't have a PS3 anyway. For those of you that have one, I hope this is good and that you enjoy it. Because that's what games are for. Not every one has to be stunningly new.
I couldnt give 2 shits about it being ''generic'' and the graphics, as long as the gameplay is fun, the only thing that is bothering me is the framerate.
Looks like they took Crysis's crappy gameplay, lowered the graphics settings to high instead of very high, got some really bad stereotypical voice actors, and used the brand new engine to create a Halo clone. Pass.
Considering that whether or not this game is good means next to nothing unless you work for the company, I wouldn't mind having something to use my PS3 for other than folding proteins (i'd rather be shooting them) and Lost on BR.
The one thing that REALLY PISSES ME OFF about this game is that the devs just ruined the entire storyline for the game. It had an interesting story but they just gave away the whole thing and are even showing off the final levels...?
Not to mention in Canada you can buy this game, and return it in a week for a full cash refund???
I'm sorry but that just reeks of shoddy marketing and development. Why would you completely ruin the game's story, and let people get a full refund on the game after they play it?
It just doesn't make sense. It's like you want people to not actually buy this game and keep it.
To be honest I was really interested in this game when it was first announced and a little bit of the cool CG and gameplay footage was shown, but now that they have ruined everything I don't even care anymore. It looks very generic to top it all off.
I didn't say any comments before mine mentioned Halo, I said that comments before mine were "this game will be meh" or something of the like. I responded to these by saying that this game's gameplay looks similar to Halo's, so by the transitive property, Halo was "meh" also

I dunno... I didn't really see anything that impressed me too much. Everything about it just screamed "GENERIC!" to me.
Maybe not a bad game, but not one to get overly excited about.
Why are the enemies all bright yellow?
Is that what happens when you administer the heroine?
Generic indeed. The "No retreat! No surrender!" war cry proves it.
The graphics are nice, though.
In the future everyone is color blind hence the yellow color theme not being a hindrance.
But seriously..it does pique my interests. I was worried for this game.
We are looking at yet another generic FPS to further saturate the already crowded landscape
@Javthegreat
Yep
I am color blind. Thought it looked nice.
meh...it looks pretty by the books and nothing much other than that.
See stuff, shoot it, see stuff, shoot it. Color me unexcited.
I honestly think it looks great.
looked ok, wouldnt drive me to buy a ps3 though
It's like you have god's hand and revive men with a pat on the back.
Without even looking through the comments, I'm expecting more "meh" "let PS3 have it" "this is bland" etc.
lol this game sucks...unbelievable...hype will only hurt haze
And.....I was right. But hey, this game's gameplay doesn't look too much different than Halo's, except, maybe just better physics. I guess that means Halo screams "UBER GENERIC" "VERY PLAIN' "NOTHING SPECIAL!!!!!"
Looks okay. Generic or not, it could still be fun.
@KingMe
There is not one comment before yours that mentions Halo or th 360...
Was anybody else annoyed by the constant shouting of "hey Carpenter!" in the first video? I felt like I was being hassled by a modern day Navi.
Haze? more like...lame..ze.
So this is Crysis 2? Wow, looks great!
Well despite the rest, I stil want to give it a swell romping.
I got to play a bit of it at PAX last year, and it's looking much better. I wish I knew a little more about the plot since the missions are like "Get Drugs!" and "Kill your enemies!" It looks like it could turn out pretty good.
Graphics look great.
Single player looks meh.
I'm thinking that if anything stands out (besides the graphics) it will be a fun multiplayer.
I'll probably get it.
It looks ok, definitely generic...
Looks pretty, does look like a generic fps, but then a lot of fps get that stigma. If the multiplayer is good I'll most likely end up getting it. Not sure if it'll live up to the hype, but it looks better than what I remember.
It just hit me how much this game has been delayed. Hopefully, it's for the best.
This made me less excited for this game than ever before.
It looks average as shit AND everything glows a stupid bright yellow (you REALLY think grenades leave bright yellow trails behind 'em? really?).
Not impressed whatsoever. No thank you.
The yellow is because of the nectar, people.
Nectar makes enemies glow (so you can see them) and grenades have "tails" (also so you can see them).

Hahahahaha, Haze is getting hazed.
K I'm done with that joke forever.

Read up, and you won't sound so retarded.
I keep hoping they'll release footage of some cool. moody weather or particle effects.
I guess I expected the name to be indicative of a more atmospheric, or at least less gangsta' yellow, experience.
Let's hope it's better than it seems.
Most of the complaints, as brainderailment noted, sounds like people didn't read anything about the game. Almost like a fog of war as you find out that everything aint so pretty with out nectar and that mask.

I see nothing better or worse then COD4.....
I definitely got a Crysis vibe from that video. RevivalDemon got ahead of me on that one, but yeah... ... ...
I get the feeling I'd rather smear myself with bacon fat and roll in horse dung before wasting my time with this.

It looks alright. Just to burnt on FPS to be bothered I guess

I hope to god for the sake of PS3 owners that this game isn't really as generic as it looks.
Like I said, though nothing I've seen is jaw-dropping, it could still be a good game. I don't have a PS3 anyway. For those of you that have one, I hope this is good and that you enjoy it. Because that's what games are for. Not every one has to be stunningly new.

I don't think this game looks like anything spectacular, -but- when COD4 was revealed, I just said to myself "pretty cool graphics."
Also, timesplitters.
Looks like they took Crysis's crappy gameplay, lowered the graphics settings to high instead of very high, got some really bad stereotypical voice actors, and used the brand new engine to create a Halo clone. Pass.
God. All first person shooters are shitty and generic. Games suck in general I guess. They're the spawn of the devil.
Halo 3 much like Halo 2 was uninspiring and "generic" or bland so really why are you flaming this game which atleast looks LEAGUES better than halo
Considering that whether or not this game is good means next to nothing unless you work for the company, I wouldn't mind having something to use my PS3 for other than folding proteins (i'd rather be shooting them) and Lost on BR.
so is this the game thats suppose to revive the ps3
i have high hopes
