G4 gets exclusive multi-year coverage deal with E3 photo

G4 has basically bought E3 for the next few years, signing a deal that will grant it exclusive showfloor video coverage. Basically, they get a 24-hour live feed and everybody else can leave their video cameras at home.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the day that E3 just bans everybody else from attending and hosts the show in Adam Sessler's kitchen.

LOS ANGELES, November XX, 2010 – G4 and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today announced a three-year deal naming the network the official broadcaster for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) through 2013. With this media partnership, G4’s team of gaming experts and popular on-air talent, including Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Kevin Pereira and Blair Herter, will bring viewers an unprecedented look inside the computer and video game industry’s biggest event with the high caliber coverage of the most important names in video games.

With over 24 total hours of LIVE broadcast coverage featuring exclusive news and original programming, as well as live-streaming events on g4tv.com, G4 will deliver the most extensive E3 Expo coverage and give gaming enthusiasts all the information and news they crave year after year.

“As the global epicenter of the gaming world, E3 Expo is one of the biggest and most important events of the year for G4’s audience,” said Neal Tiles, President, G4. “We are excited to have solidified G4 as the official broadcaster of E3 Expo for years to come and look forward to giving gamers a front row seat to all the big announcements, live news coverage and behind-the-scenes action.”

The multi-year broadcast partnership allows G4 to feature up-to-the-minute news and unparalleled on-air coverage to gaming enthusiasts LIVE from the Expo each year. Broadcast highlights will feature over 24 hours of LIVE coverage that includes a kick-off show, uninterrupted press conference coverage, developer interviews, hands-on walkthroughs and behind-closed-doors demos. With this unmatched level of E3 Expo news brought directly from the exposition floor, fans will never be left wanting.

"As we have demonstrated in the last five years, G4 is the only outlet that provides comprehensive coverage of an outstanding quality that both entertains and informs for the entire three-day show," said Adam Sessler, host of X-Play and Editor-in-Chief of games content for G4. "With such reach, we can ensure that anyone who is unable to attend will feel like they are in the thick of the gaming madness from the comfort of their couch and with far less foot ache."

Stay tuned to G4, g4tv.com, X-Play and Attack of the Show in the coming months to get the complete line-up of coverage for the annual expo.

So does this mean you guys cant post articles or live blogs on E3 while you are there? Or if you do, do you need G4's permission? Or does this simply mean no one can have a live broadcast except for g4? A lil confused.

Nothing of major change here. I go to Dtoid, Kotaku, or ScrewAttack for coverage.

The worst part about this is that Sessler really is the only host I give a rat's ass about on G4. The rest strike me as either being totally boring, inept, or just plain tools.

Also, G4? Not the best station for coverage, but I guess being out of touch with their user-base is the norm for game companies these days.

Fucking WOOOOWWWW!!! I've been watching e3 on g4 on directv for years, and now that directv has dropped g4, they decide to exclusively cover e3?! WTF!!!!! No livestreams from anywhere at all?

No worries. I'm sure G4 will just die out all together by the time E3 rolls around anyway.

Hmm, so either I can go to one of the more respectable game blogs on the internet for my E3 coverage, or I can go to G4, where it basically boils down to:

AWESOME GAMES! WE'RE HARDCORE! WE KNOW WHAT GAMERS LIKE! HAVE SOME BOOBS!

Gee such a hard decision.

This looks like it only applies to TV. And when it comes to TV G4 is like the only game in town anyway. If it's not expect a lawsuit very soon.

While this is quite the boner kill; it's refreshing to see G4 make a decision that's true to the interests of its viewer-base for once. They keep thinking like that, and they might just find themselves back on DirectTV. After all, those sumbitches just added ANOTHER cooking channel to their line up, so you can't say they're all that picky.

P.P.S. @Icehearted: Kevin Pereira's actually a pretty involved and entertaining host; though he IS (arguably) a bit of a dickhead at times. I'm pretty alright with Chris Hardwick, too, jittery bastard that he is. Abbie Heppe's adorable. Just thinkin' out loud at this point.

I believe this move is more of an act of desperation than anything. G4 is hoping direct TV will pick them back up, and this move will get more people to tune in. It wont work. I see G4 going down before the contract is even finished. Their only hope is a drastic change in their programming, and that their website keeps them afloat. I can picture G4 becoming an online only site after the station shuts down.

Are they really not going to let bloggers and other members of the video game media do any hands-on videos?? I really can't see most developers and publishers liking this when it will be the blockbusters titles that get the most "advertisement".

For some reason, this strikes me the same way Warner Brothers and several other movie studios announced a 30 day delay to hit rental on their new release movies and everyone pouted, then two days later Blockbuster announces a 30 day exclusive contract with those studios.

It's this kind of stink of desperation that just says, "G4, yeah... remember when we knew what the fuck we were doing? Cops is cheaper to produce/rerun than Eye Candy.... fuck you."

E3 is the only reason to ever watch the travesty and video game embarrassment that is G4. Guess if I was a fan of Cheaters, Cops and Campus P.D. I wouldn't mind the network.
Also, I do not agree with this.

and E3 has just been ruined for the next three years, nice move. Havn't seen anything compelling to do with g4 in a long time, and i don't expect their E3 coverage to wow me either.

This kind of confuses me. Not to long ago, E3 was struggling to stay relevant. So in order to ensure their popularity they sign an exclusive deal with a television network that is getting dropped for low ratings? When their core market is increasingly internet focused? Maybe I'm missing something here, but that seems far from a smart move.

man. they did an okay job this year coverage-and-interview-wise, but it's that god damn sour, bratty wit they feel they have to inject into every other sentence that kills me. thank the lord adam and sorta morgan are there to anchor the bullshit.

I used to love G4 years ago. Then I stopped watching for a long time. When I decided to tune in, all they ever shown was COPS, Cheaters, Star Trek 2.0 and that Val Kilmer movie over and over again. DirecTV dropped them and I don't miss it one bit. It literally became a channel about reality show and Val Kilmer that just so happened to talk about games and tech every once in a while.
