The first full album downloads for Rock Band will be hitting consoles next week. Three albums have been announced so far and the first will be Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance. The plan looks to be that one full album will be released each month. Cars' The Cars will be coming out next month in May and Pixies' Doolittle will be coming out in June. Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance will run you $15 for all ten tracks and you can also buy the tracks individually for $1.99. Screaming for Vengeance will be available next Tuesday for Live and next Thursday for the PSN. With the news of the new album downloads, Harmonix also reminded us that Rock Band has seen over 8 million downloads since the release on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Now you just got to wonder why Rock Band's competition isn't doing something similar ... So who's looking forward to the full album downloads? [Update: PR after the jump.]

SCREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAMIIIINNNNNNGGGGG!! Screaming for vengeance!!
I think that the full album downloads are great... I just hope they give us some variety. I'm really happy about The Pixies full album announcement but I'm not into rock/metal crap. I want to see Radiohead albums or Muse albums... anything else I listen to I doubt they'd put on Rock Band. Some day maybe a Neva Dinova album will make it into a game like this... or Elliott Smith... or Neutral Milk Hotel... but I doubt it.
Indifferent until Muse's Origin of Symmetry.
PIXIES! DOOLITTLE! JOY!
Not really that big of a fan of the idea, to be honest. There aren't that many albums off of which I'd like to play 8 songs, which is how many I'd have to want to make it worth it.
As long as they keep throwing out the three scattered tracks, I don't mind. But if the albums start replacing potentially smaller bundles, I'll be annoyed.
thats so great
i just hope someday Alice in Chains album.........
Just came.
it's a good idea i think, but i'm glad they let you download individual songs since there are few albums that i'd want to play every song for...
If these are successful I expect a lot of bands will follow as well. Which is awesome since there are so many songs I want to play on this game.
I'll take the entire The Downward Spiral from NIN, please.
Awesome, IMHO. But, can't wait to get some artists I'm actually interested in playing and not just mastering.
Why are they releasing a Wii version again?? I really need to get my hands on a PS3 or 360.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Judas Priest? AWWW FUCK YEAH.
They really need a Muse CD. Any of them. Now.
I’m elated to see that they’re finally putting out some full albums, but I don’t particularly care for either of the three artists/albums they mentioned. And where’s my Nevermind and Who’s Next? Also, The Blue Album. And any Green Day album aside from Insomniac would be awesome. And some Radiohead. Or the Eagles. How about John Mayer’s Continuum? I could go on forever...
I'm more excited about Doolittle than any other DLC so far.
Just announce Pinkerton already so my can head explode.
I FUCKING LOVE YOU HARMONIX.
Suck on that Guitar Hero
Yeah, where the hell is my Who's Next, supposedly being released 1st, soon after the game was in stores?
>:(
Oh well, Electric Eye was one of the only songs worth playing in Rocks the 80s.
I'd like some Nevermore. Don't ask me why, but I've been on a Nevermore kick as of late.
Ahhhhh ahhhHHHH, Ahhhhhh ahhhHHHH!
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME SO, YOU GREEDHEAD PIGFUCKING SONS OF WHORES!?!?!?
Do want. Do not want €240 price tag. Fucking bastards.
this is just what i needed
now get us those nirvana and who albums. and more police. all the police.
Ugh. I really don't like Judas Priest and I'd have to go listen to that Cars album to know if I'd be in to it, but Pixies Doolittle = Fuck Yeah!!. I really hope they get some newer stuff in there though (I want Bloc Party SOOO bad) since there seems to have been a disproportionate amount of classic/old rock in the DLC lately. I'm just glad that they're rolling out the albums finally though.
Oh yeah, how could I forget Muse? Showbiz or Origin of Symmetry or Absolution or Black Holes and Revelations PLZKTHXBAI
"Wave of Mutilation" is one of my favorite songs on Rock Band, so it's nice to see some more Pixies.
@GuitarAtomik
Bloc Party would be amazing in this game, and since "Helicopter" was in Guitar Hero my hopes are up.
From a Kotaku Q and A session
"What happened to The Who?
We will have a specific announcement about that coming up soon regarding some work that we have coming down the pike with The Who in general that I think people are gonna be pretty happy about...and in general what you're gonna see sorta deep dives with particular artists, where with some artists...of the appropriate stature, you'll see us doing more than whole albums, potentially even entire catalogs.
Entire Catalogs, the Who's Entire Catalog? Oh, Dear God.
Also, has anyone noticed that they only need to add Boston's "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" to have their full debut album?
@Scape
Seriously! I would buy the whole first album in a heart beat if they put it up.
First of all, FUCKING PRIEST!
Secondly, we finally get a song about a monkey. In heaven.
Nirvana, Megadeth, Led Zeppelin, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Audioslave, Radiohead, Yngwie Malmsteen (why not?), More Buckethead, Spanish rock songs (just to mess with people), Seven Nation Army, Stairway to Heaven, and those good ol' Guitar Hero 2 songs :]
Awesome Spanish rock song right here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xgYhTMkOU-o&
I'm with Samit. Please release just all of Muse's discography. I would lose a month playing those songs. Muse is incredible. AAAGGGHHH. I want to play Muse on something other than Guitar Hero. I want to play those kickass drum parts. Especially in Maps of the Problematique. That would be the shit.
I'm Australian, so I have to ask, what the fuck is rock band? Some kind of new game to follow on from Guitar hero? Never heard of it over here... And you expect to pay $400 AUD for it?
Are you familiar with the term, DOES NOT COMPUTE?
What I want to know is when are we getting the full albums for:
Nirvana Nevermind
Pearl Jam Ten
Anything U2 (even just a SONG come on Bono)
LED ZEPPELIN ANYTHING
I hope they include this song there.
Best Judas Priest peformance/song: http://youtube.com/watch?v=v60lOLD0OPA
The game desperately needs Pearl Jam, Megadeth, and Muse. Especially since they were in Guitar Hero games. I mean, come on.
The Cars is going to be so much fun. I'd been thinking just this past week that "My Best Friend's Girl" would be a fun RB track.
I think It's time for me to say goodbye to the 20GB harddrive and go get the other one.
I just want a Mars Volta album, please. Just one, and not the first one. That one sounds too much like At the Drive-In (which isn't a bad thing, but...).
I just pooped a cat and died. DOOLITTLE. OH EM EFF GEE.
Needs moar Dream Theater. Some Blind Guardian or Symphony X would also be incredible.
I hope there will be an option to play the entire album consecutively without going to menus after each song. It just seems like that would be fun.
I'll join millions of others..
APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION!!!
please!
:D
This is making me concerned. I LOVE the idea of playing full albums, but the chances of Harmonix actually picking my favorite albums are very slim. I also really, REALLY don't want shitty new bands selling Harmonix their horrible albums as download content. I want a mix of quality and quanity. I'm whiny.
Tool's Undertow for the win?
LOL @ non-metal fags whining about Judas Priest/
@NukaCola
LOL indeed.
I want the Dethalbum. Maybe some Mastodon. Uncensored.
I came
Holy Shit Doolittle, Yes!
OH YES! This is the album that made me LOVE METAL. Ever since that epic day I purchased it from the record store I've been hooked! I have yet to download any rockband songs but now I MUST!
Didn't they say they got Metallica to agree to an album release?
Didn't the yalso say One was going to be DLC? It's just nto as good playing on GH3 as it would be on RB.
Also, FUCK YES, finally. Now just get an Alice in Chains album or Ten by Pearl jam and we're on rock patrol.
The first single from that album Judas priest - Freewheel burning used Pole Position in the video. Priest was ahead of their time hehe.
PRIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEST!!!!!!!!!!!
Painkiller too pl0x
this makes me a very happy boy, and...
THE PIXIES! FUCKEYESSSSSS!!
JUDAAAAAAS PRIEEEST!
CAPS LOCK INTENDED!
WOOOOOOT!
At first I was pissed about Who's Next not being on the list yet, but then I saw power-glove's kotaku reference. I will sell my immortal soul to Harmonix if they released The Who's catalog, especially Quadrophenia.
Who doesn't wanna perform a fake rock opera in their own home?
Doolittle is awesome.
FINALLY. How long ago did they announce this?
Album list looks good so far too, no MCR such or any bullshit slated so far.
meh.
If full albums were worth spending any money on, they'd be big sellers in stores and the music syndicate, err industry, wouldn't be looking for every possible outlet to scrape a few bucks out of.
At least it provided a comment thread for lots of folks to try and impress people with the lists of bands that they alone equal 1/3rd of that band's fanbase.
I can't wait to spend my $15 on...something else.
