Earlier today we talked about how Flip's Twisted World was having a hard time getting publicity, especially during such an intense release year for the Wii. With that in mind, why is developer Frozen North putting this game on the Wii?
CEO Julian Spillane responds to the question by stating that it was the motion interface that really kicked off the platform decision. It also helped that the Wii is, according to Spillane, the best looking console for 3D platformers.
"Well, the gesture controls drove the decision," he explains. "To be able to hold the world in the palm of your hand and turn it on end with a flick of the wrist -- that was an experience we really wanted to create. We also felt that the Wii was gearing up to become the best console for platformers based on the more casual and nostalgic audience.
"That being said, if there’s interest and support from Majesco we would love to port this title over to the HD consoles. I think the digital download market has really broadened the horizons of a lot of the hardcore crowd and also made those systems more accessible to the mainstream and casual players."
With PlayStation Move coming out soon, Flip's could certainly make it to PSN, where it would probably get a lot more attention. Who knows? In any case, Flip's Twisted World is coming to the Wii in September, and at least I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I actually prefer a real controller (opposed to a remote) for platforming in general, but I guess if the mechanics depend on gestures then maybe it's better off on the Wii. I'm sure it being easier and cheaper to develop for Wii definitely helped make that decision.
Though I have to say, much of that "Best console for platforming" stuff is based on the promise of not yet released games such as Metroid Other M and Donkey Kong Country Wii.
Pretty f'ed up that the console with the best games (Wii), doesn't get as much attention as the console with the most "HD shooters". And by "HD shooters" I mean crap.
I will have to point out that PS3 controllers have some tilt in them that could likely be used similarly to waggle, and that LittleBigPlanet is amazing, but I think they chose the right console for their game and if reviews are good, I'll be playing it.
Totally opinionated. In my opinion the PS3 has the best exclusive(titles on pc negate 360 "console-exclusives," and pc has far too large a library to consider for this discussion) library, which isn't to say the others have shitty libraries. Relax man. Nothing more terrifying to me than Nintendo fanboys.
360 haz de bestest gamez.
JK, PC obliterates your precious PS3, Wii and 360.
The floaty mechanics and somewhat odd physic behavior can really screw up precisde jumps and such.
Now, I like Little Big Planet, but it simply can't compare with the king of the genre.
And the level design in both Super Mario Galaxy titles blow away anything (including user created) in Little Big Planet.
I'm telling you, a XBLA/PSN/iPhone/Steam release would make them so much more money (otherwise known as *a* profit).
I REALLY don't think this should come out in the fall, because Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Epic Mickey are all system exclusive platformers and are all led by better known teams than Flips. And that's assuming the 3DS doesn't come out to zap consumer wallets and time until after the Holidays.
nintendo is the best company out there and they have mastered the and dominated the handheld catagory. psp go is a pocket sized fail and M-soft really should try a XBOX Portable.
ANYWAY i dont think wii is in the same category as ps3 and 360. and nintendo's 3DS is a must have.... 3D is gunna b competition wit HD if not better
Uncharted2 GOTY 2009
the best platformers are on PS3
