Frozenbyte admits Trine project is kind of a trainwreck photo

I had a feeling something was going on with gorgeous sidescrolling platformer Trine right after I saw it at E3. It was displayed at the Atlus booth and advertised as an Xbox Live title, but shortly afterwards Southpeak announced they would publish the PC version of the game for release later this year. Ok ... but what about the 360 version I already played? And why is the PC version supposed to cost more than the PSN version?

Edge Online reported today that a Eurogamer interview with Frozenbyte spokesperson Joel Kinnunen sheds some light on the situation. Kinnumen refers to the situation with Trine as "a big mess", but says in the end of the game is the important thing. More detail from the interview:

"We would love to have the game sold at the same price point across all platforms and methods, but these things are sometimes unbelievably complex when there's so many partners involved. The same goes for the EUR/USD disparity, it's just out of our hands."

Having played it, I can say, it is a stunning looking title. But looks will hardly quiet users who don't understand why they are paying different prices based on the platform they choose.

So what's the story currently? Well, you can buy the game for $29.99 on Steam or Metaboli The hard copy for PC from Southpeak is coming later down the line. And what of the PSN version? Well, no one knows. Let's hope we get some clarity on it soon, as I was looking forward to playing this one PSN (and my puny little laptop probably can't run it anyway).

Meh, a $10 difference between platforms isn't unheard of at all.

I'm certain Sony doesn't want many PSN titles to exceed $20 for obvious reasons, and Steam will undoubtedly put it on sale after a bit.

Overall, it's probably Sony trying to make the PS3 version of the game the most appealing since I think it was originally touted as a PSN title (with a PC release).

$10 off is a great incentive to get it from Sony instead of Steam.

PC games are almost always at least 10$ cheaper than their console counterparts.

I need this on my PS3 now!

I played the demo on my laptop and I can run it full setting but the frame rate is quite sketchy. But from what I played I really want it and was hugely dissapointed not seeing it on PSN yesterday!

I'll be buying the boxed PC copy once it goes on sale and get it for dirt cheap. Oh, and I'll also be able to lend it, trade it, or sell it once I'm done with it.

Isn't DRM wonderful?

A $20 price point would have made it an instant sale for me the moment it hit Steam. $30? Not so much. I absolutely want to pick it up, but then ten extra simoleans seems to be the deal breaker for me. I'm sure there's an interesting study on impulse buying habits there for someone that gave a damn about that kind of thing.

I'm still getting the PC version grudgingly though.
