Front Mission Evolved: Box art revealed, new screens photo

There you have it. Above you'll see the box art for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Square Enix's Front Mission Evolved. They passed those along this morning along with a few new screenshots, which you'll find in the gallery below.

Strategy role-playing goes right out the window of your huge mech as you'll actually get into the action this time, stomping around and blowing sh*t up. My interest grew greatly after our Q&A with Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto. Fellow SRPG nerds might have some hesitation going from menus to melee, but you have to admit that this game looks really good.

Speaking of looking, game art is being dropped on the game's official Facebook page. There's some great stuff there that's definitely worth checking out.

I really have enjoyed Front Mission games for years. I may have to rent before I buy this though as I'm not a huge fan of action mech games.

I have high hopes though, just can't see it being a day 1 purchase quite yet.

I'm curious Dale, do you know if this is being developed on the PS3, or 360? I would be curious as to which is the lead development console. It will determine which console I buy it on (if I choose to).

I loved the original Front Mission games (except Gun Hazard), but I'm really not looking forward to this, especially since it's made by the same guys who gave us Silent Hill: Homecoming.

@Xzyliac because it's ROCKING YOUR FACE OFF.

A Front mission game since Gun Hazard that lets you pilot Wanzers? YES PLEASE!

Why do we call them Squeenix, if they don't make us Squee?

New Front Mission? Awesome!

Wait a second - it's an action game? It's being developed by Double Helix Games, of G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra fame?

So much naysaying... has anybody checked their development blog? They have some pretty killer gameplay movies on it. I'm a pretty big Front Mission fan meself, and while this is certainly a huge departure from the series norm, I'm still pretty damned excited for it. My understanding is that Front Mission 5 really is the pinnacle of excellence for the series, so why try to better a system that's the best it can be?
Plus, who doesn't love giant robots blowing the ever-loving crap out of each other?
I say we give it a solid chance before we poo-poo it into oblivion.

I was hesitantly excited about this one and then Armored Core 5 was announced, and that's the same developer as the mind-bendingly awesome Demon's Souls. I can't get it all the way up for FME pre-release news any more.

It might be worth getting if the action's really strategic, that's one thing Armored Core always did poorly since even the "tanks" can fly around at 1500 kph. Great duelling game, but not the sort of thing where you get to punish your enemies with good teamwork or holding strategic terrain.

I dunno. Why didn't they just revitalize the series by stealing some ideas from Valkyria Chronicles? If I want an FPS mech game I'll just play Armored Core.

I agree with Kapitan

There's been little fanfair about this game, but I for one hope it turns out well, especially with Square not really waving the flag for it as much they do for FFXIII. Could be a sleeper hit in the making, and bring this series back into gamers view.

Armored Core needs a challenger. I'll check the blogs on FME.

I had been slowly playing through Front Mission 3 for about 2 years, before my PS2 self-destructed. I'm taking a wait and see approach about this different take on the series.

Double Helix good lord, of all the places SE could have gave this to, jesus christ what the hell. Im a huge FM fan, so this is a major slap in the face to me, anybody who thinks Double Helix is a good dev, go play GI Joe.

@ Themightylebeau2009
Yeah, it did, but it was Japan only, and has been shut down since May '08.

Bought my copy the day it came out. Most folks that are into Front Mission in the here comment thread probably did too. It wasn't fans of the series that failed, it was lack of name recognition. It's hard to sell a game so deep into a franchise's history without established brand loyalty and all that junk.

@everybody else that seems pretty excited about this game
If'n it's good, we oughta get a Dtoid squad thing goin!
