The above trailer showcases the upcoming DS remake of Square-Enix's Front Mission. The Front Mission series -- though four sequels and myriad sidestories deep -- has never achieved the sort of acclaim that Squenix's other series has, despite its heavily reliance on giant robotic "wanzers", wicked sweet explosions, and similar levels of masturbatory exposition. Of course, the Japano-'Merican gamer is a finicky beast. We predict this remake will go as unheralded as the original did in 1995, unless the bigwigs at S-E take some drastic steps to appeal to their built-in fanbase.
Step 1? Humans riding robots riding chocobos. Let me be the first to coin the term "Wanzobo".
What's with the gradually growing screens in the trailer? I keep forgetting to look at the actual gameplay cause I'm too mesmerized by the the video's grafx.
I don't see how it could possibly go as unheralded as in 1995, this time they're actually RELEASING IT IN ENGLISH IN THE USA. That goes a long way towards heraldization. I know I'll be heralding it at least, I've been waiting 12 years to play the third one I bought but felt like I needed to play the first two first.
Anybody else own the Front Mission figures? They were pretty sweet, and you could take them apart and mix and match pieces and weapons, awesome toys overall. But I had a big mecha fetish in days past; still, if this game is even halfway decent, I'll be all over it.
This is a lazy ass port, not a remake. All they added was touch screen controls and maybe local multiplayer versus I think? Still an OK game I guess, but meh.
Good to see Square Enix pushing this series more. Theirs already a second DS Front Mission in development for next year, so its nice to get some more of this good stuff.
i played the jp super fam version for like 100 hours. was really addictive. no idea what the story was, but it was still enjoyable. that's back when import games cost $120. crazy.
Oh yes. Front Mission 3 was a great game, just about the right amount of difficulty (and it was the only game we got in Europe). Hopefully they'll release this here.

Anyway I have the Japanese version, beat both story modes, and I have to say I liked it.
