For the first time, there are rumors of bad news on our weekly robot video game intermission. My take on this? Hollywood might disgrace Optimus Prime. For the gory details and other fine robot sightings, read on.
IS THIS OR ISN'T THIS OPTIMUS? THE ANSWER IS PROBABLY NO.
The rumor is that instead of using the red 80's square truck they are intending to use a newer long faced version which is based on this newer toy nobody likes [thanks Noooz].
But why the hell did they do this? Fraq points out this in the digg fiasco: "-The reasons why they went with a huge long nose truck for OP (BTW, regarding the flames, there is a context for them like Orci pointed out). Bay said they did test with flat noses (FN) for scale purposes, and the FN would only be about 20 to 25 feet tall, so they went with the biggest truck they could find: the Peterbilt. We're talking 40 to 50 foot tall robots here. The physics for these robots have to be real...aka no magically disappearing parts. Also, OP is going to have much more red than what was shown in the supposedly "leaked" photo."
Granted, the original old toy was pretty damn fragile and ugly, but he's a square red truck on TV and it's the principle that counts and I think a lot of purist Transformer fans will feel the same way. (but we'll all go see the movie anyway, bitterly). All in all, it could be worse:
Moving past that awful judgement call, I bring you a plethora of unusual and funny robot videos today. Guys dressed head to toe in robot suits walking down the street and being humped at. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce go Nova. Plus a short short on a photosensitive eyeball robot, Mega Man Episode 19: The Robot Spider and the Robot Chicken finale (maybe)!
