Friday Night Fights: Virtual Laser League

Remember laser tag? Remember how cool it was to run around wearing those goofy looking chest pieces while wielding your mighty laser gun? Remember how fun it was when you would shoot your friends not with bullets, but with rays of light?

I do!

That's why the Virtual Laser League Kickstarter from Clockwork Studios caught my eye. It's certainly an ambitious project (and nowhere near its funding goal), but I love the "fantasy football" feel they're describing. You will be able to draft players, trade them mid-season and compete for prizes throughout an entire season (four seasons per year). You can also become a "free agent" and allow other teams to recruit you.

What's really cool about this whole thing is that instead of just having some arbitrary team running around shooting at another team, there will be "home" and "away" team matches, meaning that when you are playing at "home" you will be playing in your stadium with your fans cheering you on. I've never been a big competitive multiplayer type of person, but what the VLL is offering is very, very interesting. Who knows, you may even see me up there some day, helping out the other team by being constantly shot as I spawn. It's basically my thing.

Anyway, go check it out. Looks like it might be right up our FNF alley!

Now let's get to the games!

Friday Night Fights

New to FNF? Read this! Each week, a bunch of us Dtoiders get together to play videogames online! It's a 100% community-run event, so feel free to join in or even host something yourself!

The planning for FNF starts in the forums, where community members sign up to host matches and post their pertinent details (game, time, Gamertag, etc.). Then, every Friday, reminder posts go up in the community blogs thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, and I recap it all here on the front page to give it a bit more exposure.

To join in, simply send a friend request to the match host! If you'd rather host something yourself, sound off in the comments section below!

Forget zombies, bears are the best part of H1Z1

H1Z1 is a game about surviving the zombie apocalypse. It should be a game about surviving the bear apocalypse, because they are way fucking scarier than any zombie. But, maybe that hits too close to home since bears migh...more

Final Fantasy: Record Keeper is out today, and it kicks the crap out of All the Bravest

Final Fantasy: All the Bravest was a travesty. It played itself, it was pretty abrasive in its pandering, and the microtransactions were so pushy that it was hard to enjoy it without feeling like you were constantly being sold something. Final Fantasy: Record Keeper is another free-to-play game in the same vein, but it's a much better effort that doesn't feel straight-up insulting to fans.more

Unsung Heroes: Bad Company

Way back in 2009, Charlie Brooker’s Gameswipe had this cutting observation about the po-faced nature of military shooters. During a particularly grim scene in Call of Duty: World at War, Brooker flambés several s...more
