Friday Night Fights: Red Faction, and why it's awesome photo

The multiplayer beta for Red Faction: Guerrilla was rough around the edges, but enjoyable nonetheless. The recent multiplayer demo? A huge improvement overall, but I still had some doubts about the full game's longevity in a sea of online, community-driven games.

Now that I have played the retail version's multiplayer, I must say I was completely taken by surprise. The core concept was always there, sure, but now that Guerrilla has been polished and the XP/unlockables/lobby system has become fully realized, everything has come together in a huge way.

This is going to sound like pure hype, but seriously, you need to give Red Faction a chance if you have ever enjoyed anything in the first- or third-person shooter genre. It's got the diversity in gameplay you'd want, enough player-controlled options to keep things interesting, and best of all, experience points can be earned in private matches.

That's right, you aren't forced to play with randoms online. Great Friday Night Fights game or greatest?

Quick guide to Friday Night Fights for fresh meat: Each week, a bunch of Destructoid readers and usually an editor or two get together to play some videogames online.

The planning for FNF takes place in the forums, where Dtoiders volunteer to host by dropping their information (gamertag, time, game, etc.) in the forum post corresponding to the system they're interested in playing on.

Then, every Friday, reminder posts for those who don't pay attention to the forums (the scallywags) go up in the community blogs section. And for those who are too lazy to read the blogs, they have got my weekly recap posts which bring all of the FNF-related details into one unified place.

From there, all you need to do is shoot a quick message over to one of the hosts listed below asking for an invite, or simply force your way into the room. Whatever works!

If you want to get your gaming done later on in the evening, scroll on down past this section, otherwise hit up the following European hosts/early FNFers for a good time.

The RF:G beta wasn't all that to me so I'll have to check the multiplayer demo out. Also, will next week's FNF mark a return to Burnout Paradise since Big Surf Island will be out? Hopefully my 360 will be back by then.

Fear the mighty CHARAZNABLE. Something about all caps seems more intimidating.

I'm tempted for Gears; but last time I played with that group, it really showed that I hadn't played the game forever. Seriously, I brought the team down so hard. I couldn't remember where shit was, or how the maps were layed out. + drunk
Anyway... I'm thinking about doing L4D instead since everybody hates Valve now.

I liked the hammer matches on Quarantine best. Especially the one that I won.

Hey Smurfee, don't sweat it, man. Usedtabe and crew have been playing Gears together for years, and I only started playing a few months ago. Talk about bringing a team down. Anyway, we're playing pretty regularly these days, so don't be shy if you want to jump in a game.
