Yep, you read that headline correctly! Starting next week, we'll once again be dedicating our Tuesday nights here at Dtoid to playing Team Fortress 2 over on our official server, and we'd like you to join us!
We'll try to keep our "Team Fortress 2sdays" as sexy as possible by introducing new mods, maps, etc. as often as we can, but for the most part, we just wanted an excuse to get together on days other than Fridays and shoot each other in the face! YAY!
If FNF is any indication, the server will fill up quickly, so mark your calendars for next Tuesday night and every Tuesday night from here on out and log in early! And in the meantime, head on over to the Team Fortress 2 thread in our forums and let us know what kinds of things you want out of the server. After all, it's yours too!

New to FNF? Read this! Each week, a bunch of us Dtoiders get together to play videogames online! It's a 100% community-run event, so feel free to join in or even host something yourself!
The planning for FNF starts in the forums, where community members volunteer to host matches and post their pertinent details (game, time, Gamertag, etc.). Then, every Friday, reminder posts go up in the community blogs followed by a recap post here on the front page for last-minute planning.

oh, and let me come up with the map rotation! =-D cuz you know someone is going to nominate dustbowl, and everyone is just going to blindly vote for it. don't get me wrong, dustbowl is alright, but i think it's constituted about 500 hours of my total tf2 time. time to move onward and... UPWARD. which also happens to be one of my favorites of the newer maps.

i agree, instant respawns make attacking a chore. but 18 second respawns make defending laughable. there's a total sweet spot there. roll the dice is for what i call "fuck around" servers (nothing wrong with it when u want mindless fun, but this is not the way to play tf2), and mario kart map is for 4channers.

The server is currently set at instant respawn with no auto-balancing, but I'll happily change those if the consensus dictates it. And the maps so far are all defaults, so PLEASE give me suggestions either here or in the forums regarding what everyone likes!

heart! although i fear if i sign up for the forums i will be met with torches and pitchforks.
also, i can tell you what i would take out: dustbowl, hydro (god help me, i love hydro, but it is just so hard for casual play), 2fort, granary, junction, and well.
put in hoodoo, doublecross, turbine, upward, thunder mountain, badlands, coldfront, fastlane, EGYPT(!), steel, goldrush, badwater basin, viaduct, harvest, nucleus, sawmill, and frieght.

With community, anyone can jump in regardless of friend codes, but it seems like it splits people into groups for no (apparent) reason.

that makes me sad, payload is probably my favorite gametype next to capture points. =-( it reminds me of goldrush from the enemy territory: wolfenstein days.
and i have been playing the game since the beta and have a moderate 1000 hours under my belt, so im definitely not a new kid.
There was a time when I hated the fact that the XBox 360 version wasn't getting the class updates and the patches that Steam got. Then one day I played TF2 on Steam for the first time since Beta and I almost threw up in my mouth at how horrid it had become. Now that I'm back full-time on PC, I miss the console(vanilla) version of TF2.
2fort is an exercise in honing many skills, as many parts of the map represent a good portion of the geology you encounter and have to get use to running and shooting around in the rest of the maps, but it is essentially the tutorial level for the game. teaches snipers where to find good sniping spots, it teaches pyros how to ambush properly, scouts how to traverse terrain with multiple paths, sollys to use their rocket jump to its maximum effect, etc.
and like i said, most of my hours are logged into dustbowl, but you just can't play dustbowl for the rest of your life. plus, the 3rd cp sucks balls.
and hey, i like to doll up my characters. i can see why you wouldn't but i don't see why it hurts anyone because someone does.
and the weapons... well, again, i'm split on that. i can see why someone would prefer all the stock weapons. in fact, most of the stock weapons are some of the best in the game, ie the scattershot, sticky launcher, rocket launcher, minigun, so i don't really see a problem with being able to use weapons that have a cool effect and suffer by excelling in something in lieu of having the overall usefulness of a classes original loadout selection.
or does your problem boil down to tf2 not being closer to the original tf?

Adding friends is probably best. We shall test this. Also, I'll probably set up communities for balloon battle and coin runners. Maybe we can even get Skype going like olden Mariokart times.
