Friday Comic Intermission: F@nb0y$ photo

Fanboys comics has easily become one of my favorite new web comic series as of late. The comic goes into all aspect of gaming related culture. The main plot focuses on how the Sony fanboy, the Nintendo fanboy and the Xbox fangirl interact with each other in their daily lives. There is even a PC and table top fanboys as minor characters. Scott Dewitt, the artist, launched the comic in May last year.

Lemmy (Nintendo), Paul (Sony) and Slyvia (Xbox) go through out the series and poke fun at their wonderful way of life. The series started out with Slyvia hating Lemmy, but now they have pretty much fallen in love (god I'm a sucker for this kind of crap). Don't worry though, if you don't like story driven comic series, he also does bash video games in general.  Plus, he will occasionally do the pure random stuff too ... GIANT PENGUINS!!!

Finally, I should mention Scott's nicely done wrap up comic of all the major 2006 events that have taken place. Among the collage, there's a panel of Gabe and Tycho eating babies. Yummy.

.... .... .... After reading Fanboys, all my research comes to one conclusion: this comic sucks nuts.

I mildly chuckled at Snake eating Pikachu, but that was it. It's like a 12 year old is making a comic with his own esoteric humor and inside jokes and mommy and daddy won't let him cuss.

The penguin did make me go WTF, but otherwise the comic is better than total crap, at the least.

it's definitely settled into the standard videogame webcomic humor. i had a few smiles at some of the scenarios and jokes, but otherwise, well...no game comic does it as well as penny arcade.

Seems the site is under /. effect. It was fine for awhile this morning.

Looks like we broke them.

Damn, a lot of critics in here this week. I for one love the comic, it's often hilarious and the symbolism behind many of the characters' actions is genius. I mean come on, doesn't anyone see the parallel between Wii60 and the Microsoft and Nintendo characters falling in love? It's things like that that really make me appreciate this comic as more than just another CAD or Penny Arcade. Just keep reading a bit more than you would with your average webcomic, and you'll eventually see that your first impressions are most likely wrong.

I don't know about that, Zaron. Subtext is fine and all, but if a comic isn't funny then why should I keep reading? There will always be better stories in other mediums, and probably the same story told a different way in a different medium. Webcomics are quick, awesome entertainment, and if someting doesn't deliver, then it just doesn't. All of that is, of course, personal preference, so, you know. Cocks.

Wow... Umm, thanks for having my comic up here. A reader pointed out to me so I came running. I'm getting loads of attention as of late and I'm just in awe of it all.

Thanks for all the critiques. Good and bad, it's good to hear. I'd like point out a few things though,

The anime look? Guilty as charged. It's what I've been drawing for years and it shows. I am trying to get out of that though, and you can see it in the newer strips.

Swearing? I just don't think theres any need for it. Some cartoonists include swearing to make their characters more believable, I don't because I see no need for the word "fuck" in every comic. I just try to keep things PG.

I'm kinda surprised nobody has commented on typos...

Iddaknow. Look through the archives and see what you think. I've never wanted to be PA or CAD, and I think I acclomplish things they don't. If you don't like the comic after that, I won't hold it against you. Thanks for giving it a chance at least.

Thanks Again, DToid. You guys made my day. :)

I love the comic, its one of the 11 gaming related comics I check daily (I'm such a nerd). It is the one that is most consistently updated and while the art isn't the best around, I find the comic to be hilarious. Great stuff!

I'm glad you posted this. I've never seen it before, and it's really good. It's in my webcomic rotation now. It hits close to home because I'm a Nintendo fanboy who wishes he had a hot XBox fangirl of his own.
