What do Paper Mario and Unreal Tournament have in common? Next to nothing, until a group of students from Supinfogame (
unofficial site - more cool indie games here) game design got together and modded a (last-gen) Unreal 2K4 engine to support realistic paper-like characters. In
Drawn To Be Alive, a scientist develops a method of creating living, two-dimensional paper life forms much like the Queen's deck of card soldiers in Alice in Wonderland. The characters, however, are far more scribbly and gritty, borne from torn sheets of notebook paper.

This plays up the drama of the game, as the tragic protagonist has to find a way to escape the real world by camouflaging as graffitti, folding himself into corners, and slipping through cracks to avoid conflict as he makes his way to safety. The game's overall presentation seems like an early Tim Burton project, perhaps most notably by the Elfmanesque musical selection in the trailer. Currently under development,
Kotaku reports that we might have the chance to enjoy this game as early as October. More screenshots after the jump:
