French mag has first details on new Prince of Persia, Internet fires up scanners photo
     Prince of Persia

It’s only two days after Ubisoft had officially announced a new Prince of Persia title, and already scans of a magazine article revealing details and screenshots has hit the net.  French magazine Joypad has the scoop on the new Prince of Persia title (which they do not, by the way, refer to as Prince of Persia Prodigy), and the images reveal an exciting new visual direction for the Prince.

Ubisoft hinted at this in yesterday’s press release, mentioning the game's "brand new illustrative style." My French is rusty, but I think the text of the article is saying that the game’s story will involve the Prince releasing some evil from a box, which then corrupts a world that our hero must restore. Fans of time traveling may be disappointed, as that aspect has been removed from the forthcoming title; instead, Ubisoft Montreal will be placing a bigger emphasis on traversing an open world where multiple paths can be followed. The Prince also will wield some new weapons and gadgets, including a glove which he can use to slide along walls. (OK, I didn’t translate any of that ... but a NeoGAF user did. Thanks!)

Those with keen memories will note that the Prince’s costume is spot on when compared to the concept art that was leaked “forever ago,” and that the game may or may not look like the alleged images leaked by Internet videogame rumor superstar, Surfer Girl.

Scans of the article can be found over at the blog Two Brothers and a Sister, which is not an amateur adult Web site, as the name might imply.

I approve of the art style. I really liked the look of it.

Is that image of an in-game screenshot? Looks good. Also, cel-shading.

Wow. The time it took for this to show up on Dtoid versus actual time of release, is much shorter than I expected. Nick's on top of things.

I would love to see more games on these new platforms taking new approaches to their artistic styling. One of my favorite games on the dreamcast was Jet Grind Radio..I think that devs could really pull off some killer RPG's using this direction..Not every game needs to look "Realistic". Though, realistic looking games definately have their place.

Boo on the losing of the time mechanic, hiss on open world gameplay. More sands style platforming perfection and charm, less warrior within repetitive combat and angsty bullshit. Not a bad screen though.

Wow. That illustrative style looks really amazing (I thought it was concept art from far away). I'm looking forward to more "now-gen" games using visual styles that emulate hand drawn/ colored stuff. In 10 years, this game will probably still look pretty amazing.

For the first time, I'm actually excited for a Prince of Persia game.

Wait, is time manipulation entirely removed, or just the idea time traveling within the story?

Interesting art style, reminds me of Metal Gear Acid. The Prince looks worryingly "dark" though. I wish they'd give us more of the charismatic Prince as opposed to the whiny, generic Prince.

I wonder about the time manipulation thing. That really helped set PoP out from the crowd. Hopefully they have something to replace that that's equally wowing.

shit, but I want the time manipulation element.

And, I for one see a reason behind the cel shading design. It's for the Wii version. Although the Wii can't put out outstanding graphics, it can put out stylized graphics. Thus, Ubisoft can limit the graphical differences between the Wii and other consoles.

Looks really cool. Love the semi-cell shaded look. Cant wait for it to come out.

Hopefully this will make good use of some Assassin's Creed style free running etc.

TrailerParkJesus: It's gone entirely. They say it's been copied so much (even some racing games now use it) that they had to try something else. They don't say what they're replacing it with though.

Kadosho: It's in 3D.

Justice: It's not Pandora's box but something like that. The story is that of 2 gods fighting, one good and one bad. The good one wins and seals the bad one in a box and burries it in the desert. The one day a thief finds it and opens it and unleashes the curse so the world becomes dark. So this thief (who will become prince at the end I guess) will have to give back color to the world by destroying all the bosses. A bit like Okami, Shadow of the Colossus or Zelda TP.

brad drac: It's not really an open world like GTA or Oblivion. You can choose your missions in the order you like, and there are multiple routes to each mission, but once you are in it it's pretty linear.

MechaMonkey: It's not the same character, see above.

TopGearGorilla: They don't say anything about the Wii. It's ocming on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 only.

I say Wii game because, this is Ubisoft; there will be a Wii game. Saying otherwise is silly. There will be a Wii game.

Maybe not now, but in the future.
