Freezeframe: Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer in stills photo

Watched the Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer yet? Kind of hard to catch anything in it, right? Or maybe you're afraid of dem movin' pictures, and wish someone would just show you the interesting stuff in a way that isn't possessed by the devil. Destructoid to the rescue!

We've grabbed some screens from the trailer and posted them below. It's a bit easier to start the speculation when you aren't hitting the pause button over and over again to look at things. What do these things reveal? Well, there is definitely going to be blood  and explosions in this game. It also looks like we will be flying a helicopter at some point. Most importantly is the obvious rip-off of GoldenEye as is evidenced by the guys in lab coats running around.

What do you see now that the pictures have stopped moving?

It is surprising that this is not being developed by Bungie.

Yup, Respawn Entertainment Destructoid, you insult us with this trash.

Is Volomon joking? Somebody please tell me he's joking.

You're being sarcastic, right? Right?

5 or 6 million people will probably buy this game, heck probably more like 7 or 8 million, and you're saying it's an insult?

That's a joke, right?

Remember this moment, Call of Duty fans. This is the beginning of the end. IW as you knew it is gone. Now, you'll have to start suffering through Treyarch CoD games coming out every year, as Activision whores out this series like they did with Guitar Hero. Remember the world of CoD before Black Ops, because it's never going to be the same again.

@EternalDeathSlayer You know what they say ignorance is bliss. I imagine it will sell millions because the same demographic that supported Madden for so long is the same guys who will buy anything with COD on it even shelling out ridiculous prices for every map pack to COD flavored condoms.

I loved IW as much as the next guy, but the last Trearch COD was pretty good..in my humble opinion.

Yeah, because it's impossible that people might actually just, you know, enjoy playing the fucking games.

Jesus Christ I am tired of people hating things just because they are popular.

You and I are clearly twins separated at birth. Which is to say, I agree completely.

Personally, I was disappointed by the trailer. It was all flashy and shit. The vibe I got was it was boring and lacked character or personality. Maybe I expected too much. I dunno. Hopefully it gets better because that didn't get me excited at all.

i don't get why people hate on treyarch. world at war was/is a blast. they make good, fun games and this looks to be another great addition to my library. if you don't like it, don't buy it and shut up.

I have the wonder if the people who see the threat of Call Of Duty being whored out are the same people who sit around and moan that everything is a sequel and not original. (despite the fact both original IP and sequels have BOTH always been around since videogames were marketed)

World At War was/still is a great game that me and my wife STILL go back to for the co-op (which almost two years later there's not many games we can say that about since we move on after finishing to the current stuff).

I actually think Treyarch have a better chance at carrying Call Of Duty on than it would have with Infinity because at least Treyarch are interested and, at least by what they say publicly, really excited and into making COD.
There's no reason, given their last Call Of Duty, for this to not be a great game. And I say that with confidence going in blind, little details to Black Ops yet.
But there IS a reason Call Of Duty games ALL sell well (not just Infinity, Treyarch sells in the multiple millions) is so far they've all been fun. People buy because they like it, not because it has the words Call Of Duty on it.
Put out a truly crappy game, it won't sell. Look at Halo Wars and Halo: ODST. They sold some off the name, but in the end only reached about a quarter of the sales numbers of Halo 2 or 3. Why? Because they weren't what people wanted, no matter if it said Halo or not.

If you're a snob and looking down on Call Of Duty for no legitimate reason other than your own ego to feel superior, why comment in a thread to a trailer about the game you have no interest in simply because it's a different developer than the one mommy bought you?
Once Treyarch goes disloyal and unprofessional with secret counter-contracts done in secret, go ahead: attack. There's reason for disgust in their ethics.
But right now...why don't you snobs go make a Facebook page and just hang with each other? Let the ones into this game speculate and be excited.

Comparing the sales figures and brand recognition of Halo and CoD is very difficult. Despite both being FPS's, the type of person playing them is very different, albeit with a strong overlap.

If it says CoD on the box, it will sell until it's been whores out too much. Which, if the 3-games-in-12-months rumor is true, is hopefully pretty soon.

As for my take, I think I'll just give this a miss entirely. Never finished WaW and I only finished MW2 because I felt I had to. Not a fan of the multiplayer either. I think I just hate magically auto-healing FPS's in general because I'm loving me some Perfect Dark right now.

@father33 If you don't like what other people think, then shut up and don't respond how about that. Treyarch did nothing but put new paint on an old car, and people ate that shit up. I'm sorry but that isn't enough to justify anything. With perks which have no purpose and are never used, to random game modes. That's like giving a Half-Life 2 modder the credit for making Half-Life 2. Anyone with some sense should know better, granted not many people have that sense.

Volomon is a freak whenever treyarch is involved. He or she thinks it's treyarchs fault that mw2 is a shitty game. Seriously. What a freak.

Thanks for the stills, I gotta say after seeing these that this looks much more unique than WaW. Who knows maybe this will actually be an all around good game.

Well, I liked W@W, and I think Treyarch generally does a good job with COD games. I have an aversion to Acitivsion, but if this turns out to be a good game I won't hesitate to buy it. MW2 and Activision's latest actions have definitely killed my chances of a pre-order, but I will absolutely check out this game if it's polished and well-executed. Don't hate just because it's popular.

You can get a better image if look at it from the side of your monitor.
It looks like two soldiers are looking through a door to the outside.

i'm not saying they re-invented the wheel. i said they make fun games. most of the treyarch shit talking is just baseless ranting.
... and let's be honest, most games out there today are "new paint on an old car" with a couple bells and whistles thrown in.

I love reading how Treyarch just skinned IW's games. Yep, just skins. They took IW's work, fired up Photoshop for a couple of days, and were done. They certainly didn't have to do any writing, map modeling, AI scripting, character modeling, weapons balancing, debugging, audio recording/editing/balancing... just "skinned" MW. Whatever.

Why should I care if Treyarch created the game engine if the result is a great game? None. That's how much.

Yes, most likely I will be buying the game because I like the formula. At this point in my life, being able to play online for 15 minutes or 15 hours works for me. And it's fun, zombie-jesus help me it is fun. Relax, folks. It's a game.
