I actually find the game quite entertaining. It's merging Symphonia and FF12 (I love both). Sure the voice acting sucks, but that's what mute is for. MIght not be worth the $60 I paid for it, but prob worht it for mroe people when the price drops.
I really did enjoy the game, but I can't justify it.
I've been pretty disappointed by RPG's on the 360 this year. I actually quite liked Enchanted Arms because it was a simple RPG back in the early days of the 360, and then we had some massive RPG's coming afterwards. However Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata and (to a much lesser extent, but still included) Lost Oddessey were real disappointments to me. There are some amazing RPG's on the PS2, from Shin Megami Tensei to the Atelier titles or Shadow Hearts, and I guess I was expecting something like that, but they really felt like a step backwards in some regards.
LO was really interesting in the whole, but somethings were just incredibly boring. The cast of characters weren't particularly strong, and each basically filled the same role as each other, leading the game to be more about parties of Fighters and Mages than anything else, which is a problem that carries on into Infinite Undiscovery.
My REAL problem with Infinite Undiscovery is that I was never expecting something incredible, but I was waiting for something different. Instead it was just all RPG's compounded into something so annoying and archaic. I want Tales of Vesperia already namco. Stop holding out on the UK.
Not that I don't expect Tales to be more of the same, but it's very well executed MOTS.
Hmm, you bring up a good point. Now that you mention it, I haven't played the game in at least a week (I haven't finished it yet, mostly because I've been watching the new TV season that just started), but I'm starting to get itchy for it, and when I do play it, I know I'll do it for like 5-6 hours straight, just to get it all out (wow, sounds like jacking off, haha).
I didn't like the Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon demos, so I didn't play the full games, but I really did like LO. In fact, my only gripe with it is the long load times. I'm waiting for the Fall update so I can install it and go finish the DLC that came out a few months ago.
At the same time, I really don't know what "innovations" to expect from RPGs anymore. I played about 15 hours of Persona 3 and just couldn't really get into it. The whole "Social Link" really killed the game for me. And I know that's what a lot of people liked about it, but it just seemed to tedious. I just wanted to get back in the dungeon and fight and not worry about who I have to take to dinner the next day, or long I should study. The story seemed pretty intriguing (I'm all for story as well as gameplay), but it just seemed too tedious to have to suffer through the other parts of the game to get to it.
Now that I think about it, one of the things I'm enjoying about IU are the big battles. The ones where your different parties go along a path and encounter groups of random enemies. I know they turn into huge clusterfucks of magic and random power attacks, but there's some primal joy I get from those situations. I think that's why I'm looking forward to Last Remnant. They mentioned they had large scale battles and got me all giddy.
I'm hoping this game is at least somewhat better than the reviews. I wouldn't buy it, but it's on my Gamefly list.
Hey that's cool. I am kinda interested in this but the reviews suck so much.
Haven't played it yet, but picked it up for $38 the other day... hope it's worth that at least ;)
