Free Gears of War content incoming photo

Our friends over at Joystiq dug around and have confirmed the arrival of new Gears of War content, set to arrive Thursday morning, January 11.

Originally reported by XboxZone.com.au, the new content will arrive in the form of two free (and gorgeous) downloadable maps.

For whatever reason, these maps (presumably multiplayer, although the unlikely co-op would be totally badass) have some back story. I guess this is to help gamers really get into their respective roles as they hurl profanities and racist insults at one another:

Raven Down: "A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors."

Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Sera’s Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamer’s mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankind’s existence are obliterated.

In addition to the two freebies, Epic's Mark Rein has also confirmed an update that will roll out shortly before the arrival of the new content. What this patch will fix, if anything relevant, remains to be seen.

This "Re-Emergence Day" of sorts will be sponsored by the Discovery Channel. Time to dust off the old collector's tin.

Why could'nt they just release it today? I mean Don't they know its my birthday and that I took off work just to slouch around and download an awesome map pack like this.

Wednesday...this means they WON'T be releasing Worms on a day such as this. perhaps nothing...like the past two weeks.

Happy birthday Elvis Presley BTW

I'm really glad they are fixing the voice problems and also the frag tag distance, but are they doing anything about the glitch where you can hide under levels? I've heard there are 3 levels you can get beneath, but I've only done it on 1(Fuel Depot). This needs to be fixed

What can I say? Once we're all able to sit around our houses and do nothing but write for Dtoid the updates will be instantaneous.
