Earlier in the month, Xbox LIVE General Manager Marc Whitten announced that Microsoft would be giving a free XBLA game to make up for the horrible (and currently ongoing) issue with Xbox LIVE. Today we find out that game is Undertow. From next Wednesday to Sunday, Gold and Silver members can download the game for free. And for those of you who already own the game, you will need to contact support and they'll credit you back the 800 Points.

I got mixed feelings on this folks. On one hand, a free game is a free game. On the other hand, the free game is something I would not waste my time trying to download. Especially with the ongoing LIVE issue.

For me, this doesn't make up at all for the LIVE problems. How do you all feel about it?

All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't buy it the other week like I planned to. $10 bucks for problems I rarely even noticed is fine by me. However, I do admit that simply giving people 800 MS points would have been more fair. At least then it would have given people who don't like shooters a choice AND not have caused problems for people who already bought, but then again, it's MS... did anyone really expect them to do something that intelligent in this situation? I certainly didn't.

What is this "ongoing problem" bullshit? I barely even noticed when it was bad over the holidays, of course I was busy drinking with friends and family. I feel like people who complain about these very small, small problems with XBL have never played games online before, and have no idea that shit happens. Please stop going to the beach, or at the very least, have the courtesy to wipe the sand out of your vaginas before posting. Thanks.

No, the people who are complaining the most are those who's lives revolve around Xbox Live. Live didn't work? Go hang out with your friends. Wait a minute...

I'm going to be a rational and calm person and I say at least it's something, and at least it isn't Joust or fucking Frogger. There. Live was down for a couple of days (for me) and I was slightly bothered. Therefore, this game is great for me.

Also, the game has fairly good reviews.

"Suppose people don't like this game?"

Suppose you can't make everyone happy? Oh...wait a minute...

OK so:

1)as the lawsuit idiots are about to find out, Microsoft doesn't *owe* us anything for having spotty service for a relatively short period of time, which they did work hard to fix...

and

2)they're still giving us a *free* game and those who bought the game already will get points.

Sounds to me like no one should be bitching. I experienced periodic Live issues but it had no real effect on my life in any measurable way, as I am not about to die of a coronary just because OMG I CAN'T GET ON XBL! I can understand if you're not excited about the game, but to say it's lame that the company is doing something...SOMETHING to make amends is equally, if not far more lame in itself. But it's pretty much what I expected, sadly.

It sucks balls. I'm stuck, though, until I can afford a PS3. We all vote with our dollars, people.

They should have offered two weeks free. What is the problem with that? Not like the servers were stressed at all during the down period.

I think its great, considering I haven't been affected by the downtime at all, and I coincidently have a fucking life I think everyone should be happy it was an original xbl game instead of a upscaled port. And it's FREE!

If you don't like it, go get reacquainted with the sun.

It kinda pisses me off that I just bought the game a few days ago and now it's free and Microsoft won't even give me anything and wasted an hour of my life.

I think I'm gonna cancel my live account if they don't do anything for the people who actually bought the game.

i think that the best xbla game released to date is Alien Hominid HD.
by far.
anyone agree?
and they should give out a free 800 ms points or at least a choice of games.

I'm not complaining. I would have preferred Pacman CE, but this will do as well, considering I haven't had any problems.

I'm probably one of the few who had NO Live for a week, then shitty live from then until a couple days ago (about 2+1/2 weeks of shitty live. Overall, an entire month of shit... I want my choice in games OR 800 points.

Great for me, sucks for anyone who owns the game. They should have just put the points in everyones account and been done with it. That would be far too simple though. At least their making an effort to silence the incessant bitching.

The only issue I've had is that I get kicked off of Messenger all the time. Luckily, I never use Messenger so it really makes absolutely no difference to me.

Undertow, based solely on the above screen shot, looks cool. I certainly won't complain about it, so thanks M$ for the free game. Sure, a choice of game would've been nice, but that just wasn't in the cards.

After the holidays finshed, XBL was fine for me, so I'll gladly take this game.

I am still yet to have any notice-able problems with live. So a free game will do me fine ;)

I would have prefered points or something but a free game is a free game.

How about no more charging for Xbox Live hmmmmmm?

Microsoft owes us nothing, and yet they're giving us a free game. A $10 value, which is way more than a month of Live Gold. They likely made a deal with the developer of Undertow about this, which is why they're not just giving us 800 free Microsoft points. It's not like Undertow is the worst game on XBLA by a long shot.
I'm happy. At the end of the day, it's a free game. I see nothing negative about that.
