Free game is free: Psi-Ops photo

So I heard you like free games? I know I sure do, which is why I've already started downloading Midway's Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Sure, it has a weird subtitle, and I don’t really know anything about it...but it’s free!

The short description says it features psychic powers, guns, and violence. Sounds good to me! It also got an 84/100 on Metacritic, so at least there’s a good chance it isn’t terrible. Even if it was, though, it would still be free, making it slightly less terrible by association. Just like some of the free samples you munch down at the supermarket but wouldn’t touch otherwise.

You’ll need to sign up for a FilePlanet account, if you don’t already have one, to download it. That’s a pretty minor inconvenience, though, seeing as it leads to getting a free game. Oh yeah, and there’ll also be ads. If you find ads to be really bothersome you could always buy it for $14.95, but then it wouldn’t be free, thereby completely defeating the purpose of me telling you about it in the first place.

I downloaded it last night and was playing it a while ago. For the life of me, I do not see how that game is ad-supported since I played for for a few minutes and never saw an ad once.

I played it on the PS2 I think, its a pretty damn good game, it was suppose to have a sequel and everthing but it never came out. Damn good game.

Psi-Ops was a great game. I would download it if I didn't already have it for Xbox.

It seriously needs a next-gen sequel.

This game is a lot of fun, but be prepared to forgive a cliffhanger ending that has yet to see a sequel. If you can overlook that, you're in for a great time running and gunning, heaving crates and men with psychokinesis, and using your sundry other psychic feats to spy on people through doors, take control of their minds and force them to kill themselves or others, and throw fire at them. Also, crate surfing!

This is one of the best games of the last console generation. The team that did this did Stranglehold which, while fun, does not even scratch the level of awesome that this game presents.

Too bad we'll never see a sequel due to the legal battle involving the game's story. Boo-urns...

Psi-ops has well implemented and fun psychic power combined with ragdoll physics. Well worth checking out IMO.

this game is amazing. screw second sight, this game let you throw a giant stone boulder at enemies and they'd explode a la mortal kombat, but more blood (it's made by midway)

honestly, this game is awesome, been waiting for the sequel since i played it when it first came out.

It's probably better not to question it...

(In other words, I have no idea.)

Hope they do make a sequel as well, second sight didn't play as well as Psi-ops IMO. Plus, you could sit on a pallet and lift yourself up to basically fly.

This game was pretty awesome back in the day. I remember renting it as soon as it came out. Could have been a bit better but all together it was pretty good.

Wicked, i was just thinking about this game the other day. I remember it being genuinely enjoyable. Will make a handsome addition to my pc library. The fact that's it's free just makes it that much sweeter.

Viva la future!

No, Second Sight was not better. In fact it was pretty different. I had too much fun with this game when it originally came out. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to play something silly, yet enjoyable. I definitely would like a next gen sequel. Then again the Force Unleashed might as well be it, minus the blood and some of the powers.

Great game. I never beat it though because me and my sister have too much fun goofing off by killing the scientists with Telekinesis. Scientists are always the best people to torture in games, just like in Goldeneye.

What kind of staff do you have working here that doesn't know if Psi-Ops was good? I could understand if it was some limited release from the PS1 era, but a 2004 Midway title with ample press to boot? Granted, it was a sleeper, but being in the profession, one should know.

Awesomeness. I played the demo back before it released and thought it was good, but never did pick it up. If you like this, another game that came out around the same time, Second Sight, it similar in several aspects, and is available for free on gametap.

Who cares? You could make people's heads explode! Or set them on fire with your mind! Or take over their bodies and have them go kamikaze on their friends! Or pick them up and throw them off buildings! And you can play as Scorpion! Plus it had the best boss battles since Metal Gear Solid.

God, I love this game.

Seems I'm the only one here, but this game is buggy as hell on my system; for some reason, every keypress is delayed by what feels like a full second.

Shame, seems like a really fun game.

Awesome game. Bought it twice and never quite finished it. Too much fun to be had in the playroom, throwing scientists around into explosive barrels. Or throwing heavy stuff at them. Or sucking thier minds dry 'til their heads exploded... you get the idea. Who needs a plot?

Never finished, but I actually liked it. Historical note: it was one of the earliest Havok Engine-powered games, at least on consoles.

Also, the hero is clearly Nathan Hale of Resistance. Or Cmdr. Shepard of Mass Effect. Or one of Delta Squad.
