Well this is his job and he gets paid quite a lot so i wouldnt say he was doing this on his free time.
@Excel-2011
Well, obviously tastes vary. But I enjoy these things because I like film, and I like watching someone find ways to recreate video game concepts in a realistic-looking way with a (relatively) limited budget. I admire the craft of it; I like seeing him examine basic tropes through a different lens.
I don't really think it's about "making himself look like a physical god" or ego. It's quite obvious that Freddie's an average physical specimen, and even the perfect human could not do most of these things. The visual incongruity points how ridiculous it is that games are capable of making average people do unbelievably amazing things, and celebrates it at the same time.
... and you probably don't care, so I'll quit blathering now. I'll agree that he could push himself into more ambitious projects since his shtick does not vary much, but I still enjoy it.
As long as it is entertaining. Believe me, there is a lot of worse crap on Youtube that people will post in the name of getting hits.
Also,

@Excel
I don't know what you mean about "how much better than you he is." Guy's showing off his skill to be sure, but the only thing I get off of these videos is 1) damn, he's good at this stuff and 2) he's got a pretty wicked sense of humor, too. That final shot of him playing Minesweeper during another boring day at the office is about as antithetical as you can get when it comes to the concept of smug self-superiority. ...as is the GIF you posted.

"Guy's showing off his skill to be sure"
And he doesn't have to insert himself into more than half of his videos like some kind of auteur to do it.
i dont know about you, but when i was young trying to make my own green screen films and shit, it was nothing but me and my friends in every video. i dont see a problem with that. you use whomever is available to you. mainly, yourself.
I believe it's wrong for artists to showcase themselves more than anything else. These aren't personal just for fun videos, these are YouTube front page portfolio films that people take seriously.
All I'm saying is put anyone else there for a change. I don't care who. The videos he's done this with are much easier to watch. If he wants to be on camera so badly, then he could play a character of his own creation, not be the same narcissist making these videos every week. And don't tell me that it's not the actual Freddie Wong on screen but a guy called freddiew who happens to look like him, because I don't buy that. It just makes him look like a glory hound when he locks himself (the actual person) into the spotlight so often. If he really does do this full time (and I still have a hard time believing that), then he should definitely have the money to hire someone. He certainly doesn't have any trouble hiring big names whenever he pleases for a single video.
There are many other reasons besides narcissism for a director to place themselves at the centre of a picture. One reason is that the director understands what he wants out of a scene best, so if his acting chops are up to it, why not? Why you don't see this being done in more professional production houses and studios is because they have the money to hire people who make a living out of interpreting the director's wishes. Have you considered that freddiew may simply not be willing to spend that money? And I really doubt he does this stuff full time (i.e. not a "real" professional), and it appears you agree, so why is it difficult to believe he doesn't have money for hiring? Independent artists put themselves into films all the time out of necessity. You can look at Corridor Digital, another indie channel run by two guys. They put themselves in their shorts all the time, but when they did a serious project, they hired paid professionals.
People put themselves into films all the time. How about Woody Allen, Buster Keaton, Quentin Tarantino, Takeshi Kitano, Orson Welles... are you telling me that the films that these people have made aren't taken seriously by people? I'm not saying freddie isn't egoistic or that his work is comparable in quality to the likes of Orson Welles, or even that his presence doesn't diminish his videos. I'm just saying that it's silly to state that directors and writers are wrong to take lead roles in their films (and any other work of art really).
