Fraternity's Nintendo funhouse; college is useful again! [UPDATE] photo

Matthew, of The Tanooki, sent us an e-mail a few moments ago linking to the pictures above and in the gallery below. He didn't have a ton of information, but after careful study, I have come to the following conclusions regarding this magnificent piece:

Point 1: The house was created by a fraternity (specifically, a chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon), more than not likely as a fund raiser of some sort.

Point 2: DToid HQ severely needs a Zapper staircase.

Point 3: The young men who created this have either never seen a woman nude, or have sex so often that their exploits are only whispered about around campfires and in public bathhouses, so as not to enflame the women-folk.

On a more serious note, I want you all to put down your Bibles and focus on something important; the detail and thought that went into the creation of this funhouse is utterly redonk! I dare you to say that that Zapper recreation isn't totally spot on, or that the pixel art of that bastard dog from Duck Hunt isn't truly stunning.

If the guys from Sig Ep happen to be reading this (or you happen to know them), have them write in and explain what went into this masterpiece. The Robot MUST know!

[UPDATE: After a bit of snooping, we've found out that the gentlemen responsible for this whole thing are the Carnegie Mellon University chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.]

[UPDATE #2: During the day, I received over three e-mails offering more information about this pixellated abode. As I said before, it's the work of the Carnegie Mellon chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and it was a booth put together to raise money for charity during their Spring Carnival. I've added more pictures to the gallery, and you can find a webcam here. Last year, these guys had a Star Wars-themed booth, and we're hoping that next year, they approve of my suggestion to create a Civil War reenactment-themed booth completely out of LEGOs.

Thanks to Daniel and Bryan for writing in with more info (and for being part of that awesome frat), and to George for taking these pictures in the first place.]

The cart is going into the giant NES roof upside down. Other than that, absolute radness. I want a creepy floating Lakitu in my room.

Happy Birthday Summah

I saw the beginning of the pic and I thought it was going to finish saying something cool...

Now I am sad. Sexual tension between me and sructures have nothing to do with my stability. Just saying.

I may give you a TON of shit on D'toid, but every Churchill needs his Hirohito...
Happy birthday, Summa. 29 sucks, but not to worry. When 30 hits, you have two options, aging or suicide. I know you'll make the right choice.

I know I will in August.

I'm pretty sure that's a "booth" from Carnegie Mellon University's annual Carnival (which started last night). Various campus organizations, Greek and otherwise, build these structures usually based on some theme and open it up to the general public (the school also rents regular carnival rides, like a ferris wheel). The booths sometimes have carnival games where you can win prizes or just have fun walking through a well-done piece.

That red brick building in the background looks like the CMU dorm directly connected to the Carnival parking lot. And the booths in the background imply that this Nintendo building isn't an isolated project. Hopefully I'm not giving credit to the wrong organization, but there's a good chance that this is a CMU SigEp chapter. I'm not sure how to contact them, but maybe some industrious readers might figure it out.

Stop encouraging these guys! All this house does is glorify a duck murdering simulator!

This building goes completely against my whole "fraternities suck" argument.

Myx, the best way to keep a nes working was by putting another cart face upside down to hold the cart you wanna play down in the console, i used to do it all the time ;)

as a CMU student, I must comment. Is this absolutely crazy? Yes. But most of the booths have this level of dedication. The students work on these pretty much non-stop (including nights) for a week with countless hours of preperation beforehand. Those who think this is over the top have never come to carnival before. And yes SigEps are always very good, but there are many other very nice non-gaming booths too.

i go to cmu now.. and the frats here are completely different from anywhere else... i mean last night i was at a carnival party, and we were getting drunk and then we started talking about computer codes and stuff.. we're huge nerds and we're proud of it, and carnival is just one of the times of the year, when groups on campus build "booths" that are created around a central theme... this year was "small things made big" there are two types of booths, the big ones, like sig-ep's and smaller ones that are built on the spot, called blitz boothes... needless to say, the bigger ones are pretty damn elaborate... one of the other frats spent a lot of money and bought an ambulance and built it into thier booth

i must say that two years in a row, sig-ep has truly rocked carnival, with their sig-ep wars last year, and this nes one this year... they truly are a nerd's frat...
