Eternal Sonata was one of the most fulfilling RPGs I've played this year, and ever since I've paid attention to Namco-Bandai in an entirely new way. Even seeing just a single picture for their upcoming Wii RPG Fragile made me unreasonably excited. Now an entire trailer is available for your viewing pleasure, and if I thought I was excited before, I feel doubly so after seeing this.
The teaser site has added all sorts of new goodies, including screenshots and character profiles. The game has a gritty dark feel, but not a frightning one: It simply seems like an environment it would be very easy to lose oneself in. Even the music reminds me of a certain kind of epic RPG -- dare I say it -- in the class of Chrono Trigger. Wishful thinking, most likely, but that is some lovely music to look forward to.
I have nothing whatsoever against the Wii, but my first instinct after licking the screenshots was that I wanted to play this title on my 360 rather than wave a Wiimote around. The graphical power of Eternal Sonata went a long way in its immersiveness, and I thought it was beautifully handled on the 360. However, the screens shown on the Fragile website look fantastic, so I really can't complain.
This actually looks really different! Like Colette said, seems like the atmosphere is going to totally engulf me, cannot wait to see more of this game!
Seriously? Fuck yes. This is EXACTLY the kind of game I'd make if I were a game producer. Exploring a lonely, post-apocalyptic world without cheesy wars or bullcrap that most post-apocalyptic settings have? Count me in. The only thing that would mak an awesome idea EVEN awesomer would be if they liberally applied vines and other nature rebuilding after humanity was mostly wiped out.
I just watched this teaser three times. I will have probably watched it more by the end of the day.
I would imagine that something like Eternal Sonata's art style could be done well on the Wii, considering the look of Zack & Wiki... Do we have any details on the gameplay for this one? From the trailer all I really got from it was a Sadness-esque flashlight simulator. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I need to know more before I start to get super excited.
Am I the only one that wasn't that impressed with the trailer? Not that the game won't be good (I lurve me some RPGs), but ... it was all of 10 seconds, and jumped around too much for my taste. I couldn't get a feel for the ambiance or the graphics or art direction because there were too many fast cuts.
Don't get me wrong, the screenshots and premise seem promising enough, but I found that trailer to be kind of poorly edited.
I don't really see what you guys see. Does it seriously look THAT awesome? It feels similar to a Tales game IMO, which is fine, but nothing to drool over.
I'm not quite feeling the hype either. I mean, if I could actually see what you guys are describing in the trailer, I'd be hyped too, but that trailer did nothing for me. Guess I'll go check out the site.
And anyways, it's just a 30 second mini trailer, so don't expect the world from it. I'm just glad to be able to see a tiny clip of this in motion. Anything involving exploration and ruins is an instant win from me.
