Fox News murders children, drinks their blood photo

It seems that Fox News is up to its old tricks again. I thought I was imagining the idea of Fox going out of its way to attack videogaming, but headline after headline is proving otherwise, as Fox takes another news story and slaps a sensationalist, game hatin' title on it.

Fox uses the story of a young couple who let their infant son starve to death to promote the headline "Video gamers leave child to die." While it's true the parents played games during the eight day period in which the child died, they also ate and watched TV. They probably went to the toilet too, but there's nothing about "Sh*tters and p*ssers leave child to die." It's all about the games, from Fox's sacrificial altar.

The front page headline isn't up now, with only the tamer, proper headline of "Parents of Baby Left Alone in Car Seat for 8 Days Face Murder Charges" visible in the actual article. Kotaku took a handy screengrab of the stupid frontpage line, however.

So, since these parents watched television, and Fox News is a television network, that justifies the headline you see for this article -- and if you disagree with me, I have "studies" from "scientists" that prove me right (you cannot see the studies). Fox News murdered every child in the world and drank its blood. I saw Fox do it, and Fox looked at me. They're all pedophiles too, I heard.

[Thanks, Pablo]

Stop censoring your goddamn posts.
And talk about something else besides Fox and Jack Thompson while you're at it. You linking to them gives them all the more motivation to do it more.

We complain a lot, but that doesn't really do anything, because Fox News doesn't read gaming blogs.

What do we do about it?

games are to blame for shitty parents, I love it!
I'm so sick of people not being held accountable for their actions and using everything they can think of to scapegoat the situation.

It's been a major "feature" among the total posts in the past two weeks or so, and it's starting to get annoying. Fox News doesn't give the slightest fuck about gamers, or getting people angry about games, or anything other than attention. They're a media organization. When they see their story on how videogame parents let their baby die get a thousand-fold more hits than the other news stories on their site, what subjects do you think they're going to be more likely to write about in the future? How do you think this came about in the first place?
It's the same reason they'll put Jack Thompson in an interview; THEY KNOW YOU'LL WATCH.

Hey, there are still people with their heads in the sand enough to deny that at least Fox - if no other news outlets - HAS an anti-gamer bias.

Talking about, and in the process calling attention to, things is ONE way to make people aware.

just when did fox start this anti-video game vendetta, anyway? did someone accidentally sit on a strategically positioned NES cartridge and swear eternal vengeance?

good grief. i mean, just because i play video games AND plant explosives in elementary schools across the country doesn't mean the two are related.

Stick our heads in the sand and hope they go away. At least that seems to be the popular opinion lately.
What do we do about it?

Buy more games, write to local representatives tell them they aren't going to get your vote if they try to use video games as an excuse for societies problems. Oh, and boycott Fox News, all they are selling is fear. As we all were taught in school, "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself."

But let's think about this for a second, has there ever been a time in our lives when we do want to kill someone?

*As soon as Destructoid gives registered users the option to filter out retarded non-gaming stories by the stupid authors who continue to write them, then yeah, I'll buy into your "z0mg u dunt haf to read mah stories, lulz!!1!" attempt to blame people for having the audacity to question the importance at this point of the constant, never-ending drumbeat of "faux news is teh satans!" posts; people who are annoyed that every day they have to wade through personally-motivated ideological crap when all they want is some information about video games. Until then, meh.

It is sad we as gamers are being attacked by FOX News, but this has given us a chance to show that we will not stand for lies and unjust statements to be thrown at us. If the porn industry has been able to thrive where anyone can get to it and take no flak then why can't the game industry? Do they think we are stupid, uniformed and spineless? Do they think that a few News clips with nut jobs, "experts", and new studies out of Harvard will make anyone listen to them? They are a joke and anyone who thinks the gaming industry will fall on account of a few men in suits spouting lies to their "audience"(Read: No-one) is either insane or has had their Legal License disbarred.

To your first point, maybe you're not familiar with the format of the site you work for (I dunno, it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility for a Dynasty Warriors fan): the entries are all arranged in a list with the text of most of the stories clearly displayed on the front page. As I'm scrolling through reading things that I actually give a shit about, if I see something as retarded as "faux news eats teh babies!1!!", then yeah, I'm going to read it, because I need my daily dose of exposure to the stink of hyperbolic failure, and yeah, I'm then going to comment on it, because I would hope that the author wouldn't require kid gloves and/or a digital handjob from his readers to not piddle himself and mash the keyboard in anger at any criticism.

At your second post, z0mg, look at that! You're not the only one who can employ hyperbole? u c wut i did thar?

Fux News doesn't hit aussie shores and I am happy that it doesn't. It isn't just Fux that blows stuff out of proportion, it is other networks too and now just in the US (all countries do it), the problem is that Fux seems to be the head network to instigate problems within the community. With this, they create more problems and in end, use those new problems to feed the people who watch their news. You will see. First they will blame the gaming community for all of societies problems (they already are now), next there will be a story of a gamer doing a good thing to a person who happens to be gay or black or muslim. Then you will hear from Fux that all gamers are gay black muslims and are terrorists and all parents are all feeding a gay terrorist generation with these explicit porno simulator games and murder simulators.

Get a fucking life Fux

Whether you think so or not (believe me, I don't care) this news is relevant to gaming. Just because it isn't a post about Brawl or Spore being delayed doesn't mean it's not gaming related. What people say today about the gaming industry has a damn good chance to affect what gaming is going to be like tomorrow. If you want "straight up" news about gaming then off to Joystiq with you ya whiny prick.

I would assume the editors would appreciate criticism but there are MUCH better ways of expressing it. Jim hasn't even touched the awesome Jack story today and I'm surprised. However, like everyone keeps stating, you aren't forced to read anything and while you are entitled to your opinion...at least make it respectful.

To which I'd respond:

"Sorry I didn't respond with nothing but deference and respect to you."

The acerbic tone of your writing and the way you respond to anyone who criticizes your posts (shock, shock!) doesn't really inspire reverence or suggest that the reader should dance around your feelings when responding to you. Guess I was wrong.

@LittleBurro

Where do you think these people get their power? We complain about the Jack Thompsons every day, but the gaming community fucking created Jack Thompson. No one would know who the hell Jack Thompson was if we hadn't gone apeshit the first time he'd ever popped off about how games are murder simulators or whatever bullshit he decided held true outside of the reality he exists in any time he slacks off on his regimen of anti-crazy pills, because if the media finds something that makes people go batshit insane like we all do anytime anyone says anything about gaming that we don't like, they will bring it up every damn day. They know it'll get attention, and attention is what these whores need to sustain their business.

I know that it's real easy as one of the principle editors of the site to just call me a douchebag and walk away (or to swing the banstick, which I expect to be cracking my e-skull at any point now), but anyone who reads your comments to other people regularly won't see any difference between the way you talk to people and the way I spoke to you. I'm not interested in you enough to look for everything you post from this point on and "hate on you" for no reason, but don't try to pull the "y u mean 2 me?" sympathy card from the community chest when your entire writing style is to be as over-the-top and confrontational as possible. I HOPE HE PUTS ONE UP IN TWO DAYS SINCE FOX PULLS THIS SHIT ALL THE FUCKING TIME AND EVEN THOUGH HE RANTS ON IT NOTHING CHANGES BUT I BET SOMETHING WILL, BECAUSE IF WE BAWWWWWW ENOUGH WE CAN GET RID OF JACK THOMPSON AND FAUX NEWS.

Here are the options:

Not give a shit, its not a threat to us, seriously, its FOX NEWS, the corporation is full of Bush-humping super-Christian anti-gaming "patriotic" people or in other words: idiots. Its obvious no one buys this shit or there wouldn't be tons and tons of news sites on games, tons of game companies and it certainly wouldn't be as large of a business.

We could of course, attack them in protesting and hacking but uh, that gives them more ammunition.

I like Jim's articles for the most part, actually. Dig his writing style. I'm just oh-so-sick of seeing the community essentially play right into Fox News' hand by giving them what they want- free advertising. They could care less that you're pissed off at them for writing trash like that. No skin of their nose. However, you reading their site to find more shit to get pissed off at, linking other people to that shit, whom in turn get pissed off and spread the word....
Instant page hits. There's some FNC ad executive right now talking with advertisers going "Yeah, our strategy to piss the fuck off young people, those involved with popular culture, and gamers is working GREAT! Page hits on the Fox News website are up 250%, and every news story with Jack Thompson in it gets 75% higher ratings than average!"
And so Fox gets richer, their ratings lead over CNN and MSNBC gets bigger, and everyone's happy, except us, who are too busy reading Fox News and pissing ourselves off.
The mention of the porn industry earlier was an apt one. The porn industry certainly has far more enemies in the wannabe thought police than gaming can ever hope to, and yet it survives, and thrives, despite what certain gasbags might have to say about it. Game bashing has been going on since the early ninties in earnest, and has it had ANY effect? Not in America, at least. Europe, that's another story, but FNC and Jack Thompson doesn't effect you guys anyway.
Any and every law trying to censor videogames in any way, shape, or form in America has been struck down as unconstitutional. We're SAFE. We have nothing to worry about from anti-gaming talking heads. So why are we still bothering to get all hot and bothered every time they talk, especially since it's exactly what they want us to do?

Jim, you're always so subtle. You would do Swift proud.

Dov, yes you have a First Amendment right to say pretty much whatever you want, but there's a difference between having that right and exercising that right. You can express whatever feelings you have toward Jim in just about any way you see fit, but part of being an adult and a member of modern society is expressing your thoughts in a manner that is appropriate without compromising the underlying strength of your message. So, go ahead and say whatever you like in whatever manner you like, but don't be surprised when a good chunk of us react negatively to your immature conduct.

Further, you DO NOT have to read Jim's posts, but a good deal of us actually enjoy them. Destructoid is a site that caters to millions of readers and has a much stronger community than any other gaming blog--what makes you think anyone CARES that you don't want to read about Jack Thompson anymore?
