You can add Hole's "Celebrity Skin," Garbage's "I Think I'm Paranoid," the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Maps," and The Pixie's "Wave of Mutilitation" to the list of 40 songs that will ship with Rock Band when it hits stores this November.
In a recent hands-on, IGN had the opportunity to check out the new tracks while testing out the game's head-to-head multiplayer features. In this mode, players duel using the same instruments (drums, in IGN's case) to see who or who shouldn't be kicked out of the band. Modes include Score Duel (players trade parts back and forth) and Tug of War (both play the entirety of the song, with a meter going back and forth showing who is in the lead).
We can't say it enough -- we want Rock Band. Now. Badly. But "Maps"? That's a pretty sparse song, if I remember correctly. It could be fun to play (and I'm sure it will be), but what random pile of papers did they pick that track out of?
And speaking of which, how many of these songs made it into the game?

Rock Band will be a hit. Everyone thought paying 70 dollars for a plastic guitar was ridiculous. People will buy Rock Band when they see how amazing the game actually is.

Last time I checked 200 > 70. When people say "gee, for $50 more, I could buy an [insert product costing $250 with more utility than rock bank]." Sorry, I just don't see it. The best way this could have worked was for GH to slowly add the extra instruments over the next few releases, that way people didn't feel they were getting assreamed.
Maybe I'll be wrong, but like most video game profitability, it all comes down to convincing mommy, daddy, and grandma to buy the thing. Two-hundo seems pretty steep when they see GH sitting next to it at $130 less.
Sure but throw the Gituar only rock band pack in there at a competive price and a microphone pack that's cheaper than GH3 is it still so menacing?

First don't ever go into marketing.
Second, you can purchase intruments separatly.
Third they said that the guitar from GH will work with them.
Forth The first thing i said to my friend after playing guitar hero was: dude, imagine how that would rock having a whole "band simulation". I'm sure i'm not the only one who tought of that.
But yeah. this is screaming "buy me", and my wallet is crying.
But yeah, much better songs for the rest of the band from them.

Regarding the price, it's a huge barrier to entry, for sure. But I think the idea of the game will sell it, easily, this holiday. The other night, I was at a party where people were taking turns on Guitar Hero II. It wasn't the center of the party, but it was set up, so you could pick it up and play if you felt like it. People would rotate on the game, many people would watch, and sometimes (GASP) no one played at all. It occurred to me that if there were two guitars, a drum, and a mic, it would open up the floor and really get people's attention ... it's GOING to be the life of the party this Holiday.
I also like the track list better on GH III, but Harmonix is doing a good job of picking some stuff I'd never imagine I'd hear in the game.
