Watching footage of DJ Hero reminds me in many ways of watching YouTube videos of Guitar Hero II in the days leading up to the game's launch. I had never touched a guitar peripheral in my life, and the concept of hitting colored buttons to rock music was as foreign to me as it was intriguing.

As I mentioned during Wednesday's news about DJ Yoda and The Scratch Perverts offering their mixes to DJ Hero, I know almost nothing about the subject other than what good old reliable pop culture has taught me about disc jockeys.

Seeing someone play DJ Hero songs on Expert causes me to recoil in absolute confusion -- how is he doing that!? What's happening? Someone hold me! My first hour spent with DJ Hero will undoubtedly be embarrassing for me and anyone unfortunate enough to be watching. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

"Common vs. Masta Ace" - Scratch Pervert mix

"Noisa 'Groundhog' (Beat Juggle)" - Scratch Perverts mix

"Jackson 5 vs. Gang Starr" - DJ Yoda mix

"Little Richard vs. Shlomo" - DJ Yoda mix

Quick note to the person responsible for cutting these videos: next time, can you be a dear and release everything as one video? Pretty please? It's kind of absurd to have four different 30-second slices that take up 40+ MB each when it all could just as easily have been slapped together for one normal-sized clip.

Best regards,

The forgiving dude who took the time to put up with this nonsense

Also, it would be helpful with one of these musical instrument games to show what the fuck the player is doing while these dots fly down angled paths.

I have no idea what the player is supposed to be doing, or if these songs are difficult or easy.

Still unsure what to think of the music. I liked that "Groundhog" one, but the other videos fell into the meh pile.

These gameplay videos are a bit more helpful showing how it plays. Now I just have to wait for a video of someone playing these songs, so I can know how to properly use the controller.

That second one looks a bit crazy. You know what they really need to release though? Video of people playing the game, rather than just the gameplay. It really isn't apparent what you're supposed to do.

If i remember correctly from a video a while back. There are 3 different things you have to do to control the game. The first are 2 sliders that changes the tracks which is why the blue and green lines go back and forth. You have to move the correct slider to the left or right depending on the song.

The second control is the buttons Green, red, and blue. Just like in Guitar hero you just press i don't remember if there are any that you have to hold the button though.

The last control is the Vinyl with the 3 buttons on it. When a rectangle comes down the board you have to move the Vinyl where the buttons are located either up or down. In the easier modes the developers said you can move it up or down but in the harder modes you have move the Vinyl according to what the game says(The arrows in the rectangle).

I'm pretty sure i remembered correctly. I'll see if i can find the other video.

Oh yeah i forgot. I don't remember how they did it but if you screw up or just want to replay a part of the song you can rewind the song and redo it.

@ smallkid --- If i remember correctly you are basically right...

The buttons on the extreme represent each one one of the records that are being mashed up. The cross-fader thingy turns left right and center so the volume goes completly to either record, muting the other one... or in the center when both are sounding. And yes the three buttons play the loops or sounds, there is a knob for effects, a button for euphoria, wich is like the star power...

And the rewind option is not for fixing screwups... more like a reward for playing well for a while, you can then turn the disc 360 degrees anf rewind a bit of the music for extra points.

There are lots and lots of gameplay + controller videos out there for the curiously minded:

As much as it looks cool, I can't help but feel it seems a little too much like DDR for me. Beside, I use contact lenses and EVERY freaking time I played Guitar Hero for long timespans my eyes would dry up and annoy the hell out of me.

Besides, playing a song you know how to play in the real guitar in it s awful. I tend to push my right hand lower whenever the tone goes higher, making me miss stuff. Yeah, it is kind of retarded, but I can't help it. Should try it out a little more. It does provide some thrills when thing get heat up and you get into a sort of flow state. Unfortunately, that's exactly when I try to play it like a real guitar and screw up.

With te DJ table, I can see things being a little closer to the actual thing. Either way, I'm done with rhythm games. Except Rhythm Tengoku. THAT's a little gem. The japanese version rapes the western one by the way.

I agree with falinter. The same ad 4 times in a row after each 30 second clip is fucking annoying.
