Four million copies of Resident Evil 5 have been shipped photo

Capcom loves the number four. Today, the publisher of Resident Evil 5 made three -- I wish it was four -- number-related announcements about RE 5. (1) Around four million copies of the game have been shipped worldwide. (2) Thanks to RE 5, series has now shipped 40 million copies. And finally, (3) The demo for RE 5 was downloaded at least four million times.

The fours go deeper. Resident Evil 5 has a total of 13 characters in its name. The word “thirteen” has eight letters. “Eight” has four letters. Coincidence? Probably.

Shipping four million copies is no joke, though. Capcom is obviously expecting RE 5 to sell well. Do you believe the game’s quality merits blockbuster sales? If you don’t have the game, are you planning buying in the near future?

Capcom’s First Shipment of “Resident Evil 5” Breaks Four Million Copies!
- The biggest launch of any title in the series acts as a major boost
to Capcom’s performance -

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is proud to announce that the first shipment of “Resident Evil 5,” the newest title in one of Capcom’s most popular series, has shipped more than 4 million copies worldwide.

“Resident Evil 5” combines powerful visuals only capable on today’s generation of video game consoles with Hollywood’s film-making skills and technology to create a new sense of fear that arises from the contrast between light and darkness. Thanks to the company’s proprietary engine, the MT Framework, Capcom was able to make “Resident Evil 5” a multi-platform title(PLAYSTATION®3/Xbox 360™), giving a vast number of players the opportunity to enjoy the game. Many players’ expectations were raised by playing through the demo, which was downloaded over 4 million times. This all culminated in the largest first shipment of any title for the series to date.

The “Resident Evil” series is extremely popular, having shipped over 40 million copies worldwide since the first title was released in 1996 (as of March 16, 2009). The series paved the pathway for a new genre, Survival Horror, and even after ten years, the “Resident Evil” series is renowned as one of the most popular video game franchises in the world.

The “Resident Evil” brand has grown increasingly popular outside of the video game industry, acquiring non-video game playing fans for Capcom. The three “Resident Evil” Hollywood major motion pictures have achieved combined sales of over 300 million dollars, and the CG film, “Resident Evil: Degeneration,” has now shipped over 1.5 million copies.

As always, Capcom will continue pursuing its “Single Contents Multiple Usage” strategy, in which the company’s large selection of unique properties is also used for movies, animation, publications, cell phone games, merchandise, and various other applications. Basing operations on this strategy creates numerous opportunities to increase profits through expanding the range of customers who enjoy Capcom properties. Capcom will continue to employ this strategy to both maximize the value of its content and achieve more growth in sales and earnings.

If halo3 can ship a trillion copies on day one, Resi5 can definitely back up 4 million.

This isn't suprising, the game looked gorgeous from day one of the teaser trailer it looked even better, and with Wesker in this game any fan of resi evil 1,3 or code veronica. know you add a game with chris redfield its gonna be a showdown. Code veronica pratically screamed this when it came to resi 5.

Anyone whos played this through yet should pretty much agree this game was and is epic.

At my stores midnight launch, around 50+ people showed up. Later that day, we sold out of our initial shipment. 4 million does not surprise me at all :P

I wouldn't have enjoyed this game nearly as much as I did, without a friend to play co-op with. I didn't get very hyped about this game at all, and the demo didn't do a whole lot for me, but I had an excellent time with co-op.

I highly recommend playing through on veteran with a friend. Otherwise, the game seems about as bad as Gears 1 campaign (Dom A.I. fails) was on single player.

Here's hoping Barry is the main-character in the next RE game (best character ever)!

P.S. Did anyone else get swarmed with tentacle cocks (I hope its a glitch, or maybe I was hallucinating) as Chris on the final boss? I was shouting "I'm covered with dicks!" "Get 'em off me!" (oddly enough I didn't die, although I was laughing so hard, my eyes were getting misty) through the headset at like 4am! lmao

Resident Evil has always had the ability to bring me to tears and then just as I'm about to break something, my brain clicks and an "Oh duh" thing happens which leads me to solve the scenario and play more. The game is pretty, no doubt about it, but even pretty girls can have shit that is incurable. As for playability, the game almost demands you play with a human. Sheva is at best a helpful "shoot here" oracle, and at worst a magnificent ammo waster. At one point I climbed up a ladder and kicked it off the building just to teach her a lesson about conserving ammo (after being attacked a bit she put the ladder back and joined me). Daddy only spanks you because he loves you. I almost want to pull her off to the side and put my arm around her and explain "Look I gave you that shit to hold NOT USE mmmkay?". I look forward to playing other modes though, and finishing the game. Right now I'm playing the part of cheater extraordinaire and grinding money to level my weapons. Hope I finish before they take out that exploit as I never received the infinite ammo weapons in a RE title before. Sue me. I'm enjoying it I guess is what I'm trying to say, and could easily see how 4 million others would enjoy it.

Damn, 4 million copies, yet they expect us to pay for the online DM mode, and the PS3 version has a four gig install.

Don't get me wrong, capcom is an awesome publisher, hell look at thier game range in the past few years, it would'nt be ridiculous to say they are one of the top dogs in the industy. But I do wish they'd stop nickel and diming us, and at least put more effort into programming for the PS3.

Anyways, congrats capcom, keep up with the awesome game releases!!

For all the crazies, yes the "eight has four letters" line was a joke. I'm well aware that the word "eight" has six letters.

I knew it was going to do well but not this well. Hats off to Capcom. Also while the install on the PS3 is there, grumble, I found loading times to be very short, most times I didn't even have time to read what was on the screen when it was loading, yay. I'm enjoying the game so far, just finished 2 great boss battles and I'm looking forward to more.

The game is fantastic. Me and a buddy are going through it together via PS3 and it has been my favorite coop experience ever. We are about halfway through it, but we plan on finishing it for the first time this week. I think it is a good idea to play through the whole game with the same person.

I haven't even tried do play by myself. Don't think I ever will.

I fail to see how a demo ruins any sort of surprise. I could see if they charge you to play a demo but the thing is fucking FREE. A demo saved me from spending 60 bucks numerous times.
