destructoid Team, Co-op, or Single Player

After reading this C-blog I started thinking - what do you generally prefer to play?

I've always liked playing through a game on co-op with one of my friends. But my lack of Online connections for any of my platforms combined with an incredibly low amount of games with split-screen co-op has forced me to go single player.

I love me some Co-op game play. Sucks though that most games make you have two copies inorder to do co-op and not split screen anymore.

That is becoming an issue - it bums me out. I love to see those games with split-screen AND online co-op, so I can play with my friends and their significant others or kids at the same time.

I love me some co-op and some multiplayer.

Hell, I even make single player games more social. Back Seat gaming is the most hilarious thing you could ever do.

Especially with Noby Noby Boy.

I used to be a single player person but now I'm really liking co-op. I had a ton of fun with a good friend in Resident Evil 5.

I love co-op games, mainly because (A) It's generally more fun with a friend and (B) I suck at competitive multiplayer.

I'll go with co-op. I've always loved to play on-rails shooters with friends, like House of the Dead.

Single Player. Most of my friends don't like doing or when we do we just start fucking around. Multiplayer is always fun but eh...I prefer a mory story driven element into the gameplay other than kill these people or capture this flag.

It all depends on the game though. Halo, Call of Duty I'll beat the game once, maybe twice but for the most part I just do multiplayer. With Red Factio for example though I just do single player. The multiplayer is fun but eh...not to mention none of my friends play it. I need more friends, real or imaginary :\ *Hands his teddy bear a controller*

I tend to prefer good team based play (when you can find it). Solid team based games really are like co-op, but against human opponents as opposed to A.I.

Unfortunately, not many multiplayer games are well suited to true team based play. Even Killzone limits communication to a squad of 4 within a larger team, so it's hard to get team strategies going unless you are all in one area and can use prox chat.

Warhawk is one of the few multiplayer games I've come across where people actually tend to play successfully as a team - it would be nice to see more games like this.

... though I have to say that Borderlands' concept of co-op play is looking like a lot of fun!

I'm generally more interested in single player games tbh, although I sometimes play them with others, like the 3 person FFXII team me and my roomates had going. Was great casue the one guy was always up all night, and didn't mind grinding levels, so I always got to advance the story, haha.

So, mostly single player, but I do like getting some friensd together to play too, Mario Party and Left4Dead seem to be my multiplayer games of choice, or just get 2 systems and challenge someone to a competition in a certain game.

I like all of them the same for different reasons, really. I can just say that I've always preferred co-op to versus though. Except on fighting games, obviously.

I like playing splitscreen co-op games especially with my girlfreind.
But the problem is that I'm more of a hardcore gamer and she is a less then casual gamer. So to find a game that we both enjoy is hard.

Plus thare arnt to many spiltsreen co-op games in the first place. WTF?

Nothing can beat playing Local co-op with a buddy.

Earth Defense Force 2017
Gears of War 2
Left 4 Dead
Resident Evil 5
Halo

Case-in-point, the most fun I've had gaming have been co-op experiences, with a friend right next to me.

Although I agree, I voted Team-based Multiplayer.
Either way, gaming with friends is usually more fun... Unless they suck.
