Whether it be for videogames, music, or even movies, DRM sucks ... period. That's why we want to give you the heads up on Far Cry 2's anti-piracy measures before it's too late. You're initially able to install a retail copy of Far Cry 2 on 3 separate PCs and are given 5 activations per system. By uninstalling the game, you are automatically refunded an activation, so you can theoretically install the game an unlimited number of times. According to a Ubisoft forum manager, "you could uninstall/revoke on three then put it on three completely different machines" and "additional activations can be provided." Alright, Far Cry 2's DRM isn't that bad, is it? [Via Videogamer]

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe the day has finally come (and before you yell, yes, I know this news was official a couple nights ago -- you can blame the blind, homeless children I have been reading bedtime stories to the last few days for missing the announcement)! After years and years, the much hyped and ridiculously anticipated fan translation of wet dream-inducing Mother 3 is complete and will be released to all of us non-Japanese speaking people this week! Yay, Roman characters! Honestly, this entire process has almost been like a soap opera with all its twists and turns, so I am not sure if the same team that started this translation is the same team that finished it. Does it really matter, though? In a few days we will all be able to play Mother 3 and actually understand what is going on! Click here to get the details on what technical specifics you need to obtain the game once the patch is complete. Now, OF COURSE all of you eager fans own a retail copy of the Japanese game and wouldn’t dare download the ROM without it, right? Right? Actually, don’t answer that. Let’s just use the remaining space in this post to celebrate this historic day! Woo hoo! Mother 3! AHHHHHHHH! Best news ever! Now my Lucas Halloween costume will be so much cooler! AMAZING!

[Sharpless talks about his experience with Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 for his Monthly Musing piece. -- CTZ]
Generally speaking, I don't like to participate in these "Monthly Musing" thing-a-ma-jiggers. I [blog] what I want(!), and I'm not one to grasp at that elusive, golden, front-page ring. But when I saw the word "fear", I knew I couldn't resist. As a professional coward, I am an expert at fear. I'm like Batman, but in reverse. So, as a certified pussy, there are a number of things I could write about. Like the time that Beetle Adventure Racing made me spaz out and nearly shit my drawers, or the horrors of trying to comprehend Too Human. But I am a fan of all things Valve, so my Newellian overlords dictate that I must choose "Ravenholm" as my subject, in order to coax a smile from the moist, buttery maw of Darth Gabe. "Ravenholm" is the title of the fictional ghost town from Half-Life 2, where the beheadcrabbed mostly-dead wander the streets, and your only comfort is the shotgun in your hands and what shells you can cram into your deep-but-never-quite-deep-enough pockets. It's a zombie-killer's wet dream. And while it certainly doesn't take much to scare me, and any zombie game could've filled this post, I do have my reasons for choosing Ravenholm.

An online Prince of Persia comic, drawn by the good folks over at Penny Arcade, has gone live today. The Web-based, 32-page comic book will be updated with new pages daily, leading up to the game's December 2 release. At it stands now, there's not much there but the cover and a single page of story. Quite the tease. It does hint at what's in store, detailing the backstory of the game's princess and sidekick, Elika. Ubisoft sent along a teaser image from the comic book, depicting a bow-and-arrow wielding Prince (or someone) going head-to-head with a tiger. Check it out in the gallery below. I don't mess with tigers; if it were me, I'd go at it with a sub-machine gun. If only this were a Far Cry 2 comic ... Also, be sure to read my hands-on impressions of Prince of Persia from this year's Tokyo Game Show.

Pretty much everything we've seen of Golden Axe: Beast Rider has had returning character Tyris Flare riding atop the back of some creature or another. Now, we're getting a trailer devoted entirely to on-foot gameplay and it's put me a little more at ease. The beasts just don't appeal to me all that much. My complaint with this trailer is in how Tyris looks. Is it just me, or does she appear to be the sort of woman you'd find outside of a bus station trying to score some black tar heroin? I'm not talking about the outfit here. Those are the same clothes she's been wearing since the first Golden Axe, after all and it's not an unexpected wardrobe choice for women in these sorts of games. It's just that her face and hair look really awful. Golden Axe: Beast Rider dropped this week. I've decided that, even armed with the knowledge that the on-foot stuff appears to be solid and in spite of my retro-goggles, I'm just not interested enough with everything else coming out around it. Are any of you going to be giving it a chance?

Portable Dreamcasts -- those we've seen before. After all, just about every old system has been slammed into a portable case by now. Doing a beautiful job with it, however, is another thing, and this one created by benheck.com forum user hailrazer certainly looks the part with its lovely smooth casing. What went into it, you ask? Looks as if it's made up of a Lazer Doodle, a Quantam Controller, a Pico 120 watt Psu, 12v batteries and of course, a Dreamcast. If you would like to see the project in progress before it was completed, you can scroll down the thread in the benheck forums and see earlier pics. Of course, you have to have a hell of a battery to power it, but it's not as if you'd tote it around with you everywhere anyway. [Thanks, Adam]

I was totally addicted to N+ when it first released on XBLA and even grabbed one of the add-on packs. The game was so well-designed that I couldn't be upset when it trounced me on a level time and again because there was no doubt in my mind that every death was entirely my fault. It's been a while since I gave it some serious play, but all of that is about to change. Today, Metanet released the third level pack for N+. It comes stuffed with 150 new single-player levels and 50 race/survival multiplayer levels to put your ninja skills to the test. And, best of all, it's absolutely free. What are you waiting for? N+ fans can go and download it right now. If you haven't purchased N+ and you enjoy ninjas, gold or challenging platforming, I'd highly recommend you plunk down the 800 MS points to pick up what I think is one of the best games on the service.
