Fun facts: IO Interactive used to be called Reto-Moto and its founding members and some of the core developers left the studio when it was sold to Eidos back in 2004. Now the guys who were responsible for the older Hitman games, as well as the excellent Freedom Fighters, are back once again as Reto-Moto with a new title -- Heroes & Generals.

If you want, you can opt to become a strategic officer who will manage the resource side of things on the map, deciding what to attack and where to assign your battlefield assets.
We've seen plenty of WWII multiplayer shooters in the past decade, but the rather large consistent theater with the potential for a lot of different maps and missions, plus the option to get all strategic while your peons fight your battles, sounds pretty cool to me. You can sign up for an alpha-key on the official website, which will also allow you to shape how the final game will end up.
Reminds me of the upcoming "Hybrid" from 5th Cell. I won a $20 bet with a friend over competitive games moving towards persistent worlds. Best lunch I've ever not paid for :).
