I know that several members of the gaming public have a great deal of malcontent for GameStop and its practices -- employees hassling about reservations and subscriptions, trade in prices that are clearly a rip-off -- and it seems that one ex-employee shares in his customers’ annoyance; as he went on to create a nine-part Youtube rant detailing why the retail chain sucks.

The (cleverly aliased) WhistleBlower also decided to record them in a style very reminiscent totally ripping off Zero Punctuation. Perhaps this was all in an attempt to remain anonymous lest he should suffer a reprisal from the vengeful ex-employer. Or maybe he’s just a fan of Yahtzee’s work: who can really say?

Most of the stuff WhistleBlower covers is mostly common Internet knowledge, although there are still some interesting bits of info -- how bad GameStop’s used console failure rates can be, how it’s a such a convenient place for thieves and drug addicts to unload stolen merchandise, etc. One thing that really surprised me, though, was how he totally forgot to list GOOZEX as a good place to trade games online. What’s up with that?

one thing that ranks this as shoddy is the guy's speaking ability. Yahtzee you can understand, but this guy's like some cheesy fast-talking game show host: "blahblahblahblahmumblemumble one thousand dollars". you can only really make out the last two or three words out of every sentence.

The information is all Captain Obvious stuff and the presentation is Yahtzee minus any actual entertainment. The guy would have done better to present his arguments in a coherent manner that wasn't trying to shamelessly capitalize off someone else's popularity.

So yeah, its done in Zero's style, big deal.

If you muppets read between the lines of what he's saying, you'll see how right he is.

I too once worked for the buggers known as Game in the U.K, and Game use the same bullshit tactics in their retail model. This is why they now rule the U.K games market, treading any competition underfoot, even Gamestation (which was better before the bought, raped and owned them).

Knowing what I know, just like this ex-Gamestop chap, makes me purchase my used games from ebay more. I've more or less stopped shopping at Game, because they have too much money with rubbish customers serivce. Some competition is sorely needed.

Beware who you trade or sell your games to people, as their are other options beside the high street chains like Game and Gamestop.

Now you all know the truth, of how you get ripped off. Don't believe the hype, then watch this video 5 or 10 times til you understand the bullshit many ignore.

Guess what, there are so many dumb fucks that bitch about Gamestop, and continue to shop there. They continue to trade in their games for crappy prices and bitch and moan their way out the door after they've forked over $54.99 and tax for a used game.
The fault rests entirely on the consumer, those dumb fucks. A business' main m.o. is to make money, and lots of it. And Gamestop has found a great way to do that, because they have targeted a legion of retards that continue to feed into their bullshit. Gamestop sucks, the customers suck more, because they help keep them going.
And an fyi, I work for that shithole.

I've listened to Yahtzee for a long time. You, sir, are no Yahtzee.

Oh, and next time hire someone who actually has SPEAKING SKILLS to do your rant for you.

More reason to stick with locally owned independent stores when it comes to looking for used titles. Hell, at least with independent places you're more likely to find titles and accessories for older systems, not to mention import titles and modification accessories.

I don't care whether or not he was being informative or accurate or whatever. That's great, you're gonna make a really huge dent in Gamestop's sales because people are gonna stop being morons overnight.

I would much prefer if it was entertaining, but it was boring, unfunny, and a lame imitation.

Goozex is a GREAT place to trade your games. I learned at a young age that when I went to Funco land and sold them 5 nintendo games and they gave me 47 cents in store credit that I would never do it again and that this type of crap would cease to exist, but yet it seems everyone still does it and I have NO clue why!

I don't really see what was wrong with it. I understood the guy just fine on one sit through. Yes, some of the info he gave was old news to Hardcore gamers, but some wasn't. It was interesting. He didn't make it to be primarily entertaining, he just wanted to make it informative.

Overall though, it looks like most of you are too simple to understand his purpose. If you had actually bothered too pay attention, rather than harshly dismissing it for superficial reasons, you would've noted that he wants this message to get to the main people that shop at GameStop: casual gamers and non-gamers.

He says that hardcore gamers don't shop at GameStop (at least often enough) because they know better, but the people that GameStop thrives and leeches off are kids, casual gamers, and soccer moms. In the end, the main thing he wants to do is not tell Hardcore gamers things they've heard off the internet for quite some time now, but to inform the masses on the truth behind GameStop's fradulent practices. In the last video, he also asks the viewer to spread the message to these people that simply are oblivious to GameStop's BS.

Now, why post it here at Destructoid? Because most of us are amongst the group of people (hardcore gamers) already in the know that need to spread the message to those that aren't, and rather than doing it ourselves, it's easier to just show them through this video.

What's the point of doing this? To produce educated consumers that would avoid GameStop and any other such store unless improvements are made. The point is not to put GameStop out of business, only to have it be replaced by the same type of store under a different name, the point is to make the situation better altogether. To drop all the bullshit, and shape up to a respectable store. To treat their customers with a sense of respect, rather than treating them like suckers.

It's sad to see that most of you honestly had no idea what the fuck you were watching. This isn't rocket science, but then again... This is Destructoid after all. I'm not surprised.

If you do watch past the first part, the "mumble mumble" improves. Still, it's not hard if you watch AND listen instead of tabbing around while the video is running, which I'm willing to bet, a lot of people have done.

I watched them all, and I have to say that not all of it is common knowledge. I mean yeah we all knew GameStop rips you off crazy like on trade-ins, but I had no idea just how bad the company was.

I thought this was put together well. I enjoyed it, because I've been on the fence about GameStop for awhile.

I don't agree about GameInformer. GameInformer was started by an ex-FuncoLand employee (back when trade-ins were cool) that knows his stuff. GameInformer is well written and entertaining.

Complaining about advertisements in a magazine is stupid, because everything has advertisements. That argument was unfounded.

I thought it was good. There were some things I didn't know there. His attempt to rip off Yahtzee was a way to remain anonymous and provide filler for his videos that would otherwise have to be populated entirely by google images.

@fozzyozzy

Possibly. If half of the shit in this series is as bad as the series describes, then continuing to work for them does indeed make you "dumb as fuck". Unless you were born with a bomb in your chest that explodes should you be employed anywhere else.

Though, shit, maybe GameStop is the best place to work where you are. Maybe your store is a good store to work at. I work at a BestBuy that treats it's employees very, very well; we all love our jobs. I've heard stories from people that work there that say that other BestBuy stores are hell to work at, with slavedriver managers that don't give a fuck about you. Not every BestBuy is the same, just like I'm sure that not every GameStop is the same.

Just because almost all of the people that work at GameStop (at least my two local ones) know jack shit about games, that doesn't mean that there isn't a GameStop somehwere that has decent employees who don't want to kill themselves.

You may be the minority.
