Force Unreleased: Stars Wars game delayed
by Jim Sterling on 03.13.2008 31 comments

Force Unreleased: Stars Wars game delayed screenshot

Here's some bad (if somewhat expected) news for those of us eagerly awaiting Star Wars: Force Unleashed. The fantastic looking game, originally slated for an April release, most likely won't be seen now until August. Well, bugger.

There doesn't seem to be anything officially stated about this, just a site claiming insider knowledge and IGN now showing the proposed August release date. That's a shame we have to wait, because this game just keeps looking better and better. However, perhaps keeping a wide berth of Grand Theft Auto IV's release is a wise move. Star Wars is Star Wars, but in terms of gaming, Rockstar will have the undeniable spotlight that month. That said, some have hinted that the game didn't look all that up to scratch and needed a lot of tweaking, especially in the animation department. We'll have to wait and see on that.

Looks like we must wait a few months to Force blast stormtroopers through TIE Fighters and annihilate those detestable Wookiees, but I can hang on for a feeling that good, and I still have high hopes for this. It's not like we didn't see a delay coming, anyway -- this is the games industry.

Imagine my surprise when I realized this was no surprise to me as the guy from GameStop pretty much told me this in February....

I can wait if it makes it better. I gotta tell you though ..that Dev Trailer looked crazy good.

Sigh, but yes I do agree with you yojimbo. If it comes to august though and the game comes out with major bugs and glitches I will be a bit dissapointed.

hopefully 2008 doesn't turn into the clusterfuck of fall releases that 2007 was.

As long it the wait is worth it, it's ok.

I really want this game to succeed, so I'll wait patiently. I'll always take a delayed, yet polished game over a rushed piece of shit.

I taught this was already delayed, shit most shopping sites had it dated way back into the Summer. Bummer though regardless, after KOTR and Battlefront, Star Wars games are having a good run.

I had no idea it was meant to be coming out so soon! Going up against GTA is probably a bad move but anymore time they spend to make the game better is fine by me!

This is a very good thing. I've got a friend who's working at LucasArts QA. The game that's been shown to people thus far is reportedly (from him) a horrid, bug filled mess. You notice in those previews you never see more than a few seconds of gameplay at a time? It's because the builds they were played on were unstable to the max. This delay will give the Lucas QA people much needed time to hammer out those fucking bugs so the ultimate product is as bug free as possible.

Be happy with the delay. Would you rather have a fucked up game now or a complete, stable game later?

Fuck! O well delays give me time to catch up on other games.

I dunno. This game is starting to stink of hype. It has the benefit of not being attached to a major movie or TV show release of anything . . . but I dunno.

I have a bad feeling about this

def not surprised by this one. I am looking forward to this game though, lets hope it doesnt get delayed any further than august and that this will be enough time for them to make the game everything it should be!

Pool's closed due to GTA.

Delayed due to GTA. (as everything slated for April will be!)

Both are now memes?

sorry but the country will be closed due to people calling out of work to play GTA. stock markets will fall. planes will be grounded. lives will be lost.

Assuming this really is an issue with bug fixing and not an attempt to dodge the GTA release, wtf?! When did it become a given that every game will be delayed past the release date at least once during its development? Pragmatically, I know we all want to see a better game later rather than a crappy game now, but someone needs to stop letting these guys off the hook, and it might as well start with the fans.

That's a shame, although I didn't know it was originally planned to release near GTAIV. Moving it back to avoid the crushing defeat at retail makes sense enough to me. Here's to hoping it ends up playing as good as the dev trailers promise.

Fine by me. Delays don't really bother me much. I just want the best possible game to come out, especially when it's something as potentially great as Force Unleashed. Heh... I didn't catch the pun at first.
