Force Unleashed heading to iPhone with fingersaber action photo

If you're a fan of ridiculously expensive gadgets designed to make you look like the trendiest douchebag in town, then you will no doubt own an iPhone, and might be interested to learn that LucasArts is porting over its highly anticipated Star Wars action title. Star Wars: Force Unleashed will be heading to Apple's latest money magnet with a unique control system.

The iPhone version of Force Unleashed will be completely on-rails, and you'll be expected to swipe your finger across the screen to engage in portable lightsaber action. Frankly, it sounds rubbish, but the people responsible are saying it's quite fun, and I guess they wouldn't have any undue bias. I say we trust them!

CVG has a gallery of screenshots for your perusal, if you are interested in using the iForce.

This is so stupid. I remember watching the video and thinking it was just a proof of concept. Proof that making epic "real" games on the iPhone is a fucking joke. I will not participate in this social experiment.

If it's free I'll download it just to cement my thoughts on the matter but there's no way in hell I'm paying for it.

It appears as if all their blaster rifle batteries are low, too bad nobody cares. It does look a lot like the one side-scrolling action game that came out for the PS1 after Episode 1 was released. I never beat Darth Maul, but the rest of the game was pretty fun. I wonder if it'll be exactly the same, except worse.

John Carmack said the iPhone is nearly as powerful as the Xbox/PS2. Looking at these screen shots...I'd beg to differ.

To all those who say this game is going to be bad, I ask you this: isn't it practically the same thing as Ninja Gaiden DS? Sure, there was a bit more control in Ninja Gaiden, but the core of it was slicing and dicing on the screen which is exactly what this game is doing.

LucasArts still sucks, and I'm not interested in giving ol' "Ripoff" Lucas any more money. However, the iPhone is going to be a great portable platform, as soon as someone gets the smarts to port some of the old point and click adventures to it.

John Carmack is normally not wrong, but this aint no xbox. The iphone/touch has the potential to be good as long as the natural features are the control mechanism just like the best DS games. There WILL be good games, I doubt this will be one though. There is a very big market and a good cut for developers cash-wise so I hope something good comes out soon.

Jim's been on a roll lately. I can't think of an article of his written in the last week that didn't make me chuckle.

Jim, never change, I love you.
