For the RPG-hungry: new Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World trailer

With all this talk of three-day-long Metal Gear Solid cutscene marathons and such, RPG gamers may be feeling a little lonesome for some news that speaks to them. Well, never fear, little gamers: I consider it my personal mission to keep you informed on what's going on with current titles, which may take you 60+ hours to complete, but won't make you watch a cutscene the length of a freaking film.

In case you aren't up to date on the latest entry in the Tales series, Dawn of the New World comes out for the Wii in Japan this June and is slated for a North American release in September. The story takes place two years after the events of the original Tales of Symphonia for the GameCube. I find myself reminded of Skies of Arcadia as far as the art style is concerned. What say you, RPG fans -- yay or nay?

[Thanks, Adam]

Being a fan of the Tales series and Symphonia in particular, I'll most likely end up playing this. But honestly the last thing I need is another RPG to add to my list of games to play. The pile keeps getting bigger and bigger, but I suppose that's a good problem to have.

I'm really excited for this game. ToS is what got me into the Tales series and this game is one of the reasons why I got a Wii.

Symphonia was the first Tales of game I actually finished (never could sit my ass down long enough on my computer to finish phantasia.) Personally I'd rather see it on a system not the Wii, but i'll more than pick it up.

Now when is Tales of the Abyss coming to NA Dses?

So the name got changed from "Knights of Ratatosk"? The first ToS game for gamecube was amazing, so naturally I'm excited for this one.

I can't freakin' wait. ToS is one of my favorite RPGs ever. Definitely one of the best casts and cast chemistries. I can't wait to play!!! XD

Color me excited...in my pants. I loved Symphonia, but wanted MOAR when it was over. This will fit nicely in with the lull between other titles I must patiently wait for. Thanks Colette!

Any word on reworked co-op? It was crap on he original title.

This game, while the combat looks good. Graphically is really disappointing. The characters need more contrast or something they just look washed out and dead to me. Still want to play it of course. Does anybody know how much this game relies on the first, story wise?

I adored the GC game. The cast in Symphonia is made up of some of the best RPG characters ever. I love that the main character was not a douche. That was nice.

DO NEED!

My GCN was notorious for destroying my game saves (I owned official cards only fwiw). I was quite addicted to Symphonia but never finished it. When you're 120 hours in grinding for max levels and 100% completion, a deleted save will kind of sap your will you know? I doubt I'd ever buy a Wii to play the sequel without having finished the original.

I loved the first one so of course I am excited about this one. I kinda wish that they kept the original cel-shaded style. This game has pretty okay graphics but as proven by Mad World the Wii can do some amazing cel-shading.

For people asking why Zelos is there and Kratos isn't well, that means you didn't get the canon ending of the first one. In the real ending, Zelos redeems himself, and I think Kratos dies.

Dude, I LOVED the first game. I was literally sad when I finished the first one, I even felt like I had to say goodbye to friends.

Now all I have to do is finish Persona 3 by September, then I can pick this one up.

I played through the GameCube Tales of Symphonia, and I liked it, but I don't know if I've got the time to play through another one. I didn't like the first one that much.

Man, how did I miss this? I've got the original Tales of Symphonia sitting on my desk right now. It's a fantastic game and I'm glad I played it. I can't wait for this one.

It looks like they've made some changes to the FRLMBS that are more than welcome. Not to say the LMBS is obtuse, far from it, but some additions are always welcome, especially if they enhance the experience.

Thank god this trailer came out-while stoking my gaming boner on the trailer from god knows how long ago, I realized it looked blocky. This looks MUCH better.

I knew that locations were going to be re-uesed, but damn, could you do more than just upgrade the graphics a bit?

rsz88, that's dedication. o.0; I played it one and a half times, the "half" being reset from the Flanoir scenes.

I'd get it if I had a Wii... drat. I just finished forcing my sister to play ToS. She cried at the end. C:

(SPOILER: There were two endings, one where Z. dies and K. rejoins, and one where Z. was really working on your side all along and K. is too weakened by the fight with L. to help. Either way, K. leaves at the end.)
