Metroid got the middle finger. Such bullshit. I hope this comes to 3ds. Glad the Wii is getting some love, but Kirby and portables.....
im still fucking pissed that there was no Metroid Anniversary announcement like a new Metroid Game or even a compilation like the Super Mario All Stars collection.

it's a shame Metroid celebrated with other Main franchises like Mario and Zelda.
if Metroid was created 1 year after those games, you bet they would celebrate the series this year.

Well, there's a problem with Metroid compilations:
Metroid Prime Trilogy already happened.
Nintendo gave away Metroid and Metroid Fusion via Ambassador.
Super Metroid is already on VC - and you have that, most likely.
Other M had come out the year before, too.
And Retro is probably working on a new one.
Metroid - also not popular in Japan. Never has been over there.
A re-issue of MPT would have been nice, but now it has collector value, too.
I can't really imagine what else they could have thrown together aside from an MPT reissue.

@tsp: Like you said, already a prime comp, I want a 2d comp spanning nes-ds on disc or cart or virtual. Something. Zelda, Mario and now Kirby have also had plenty of releases the past few years and they got their due. *flips table BULLSHIT!
As much as I love Metroid and would've liked to have seen it's 25th anniversary celebrated in some fashion (or Pikmin's 10th, but maybe that one was just me), I wasn't at all surprised that it didn't get any love from Nintendo last year. Nintendo's tried like hell to boost that series visibility over the last decade and it's, what, their 9th best-selling franchise? I think even Kirby's almost doubled up on Metroid in lifetime sales at this point.
Anyway, what we really need is a new 2D, portable Metroid game. I've been impatiently waiting to make notes on my map for almost 8 years now.

I wonder if this is going to be a limited edition, that they turn around and press more of when they realize people will buy this stuff up.
After seeing PrinceHeir's post/link.. I feel as if I am doing myself a great disservice by not visiting neogaf.
I would initially think they would just repackage the Kirby Super Star game onto a disc, similar to how they repackaged Mario All-Stars for Mario's 20th. However, the virtual console and DS ports makes me think there could be a PROPER compilation. Dream Land 1,2,3, Adventure, 64, those puzzle games on SNES, and plenty more would be great!
Again, the whole "Japan doesn't like Metroid" was nothing more than Urban Myth perpetuated by EGM, which turned into self-fulfilling prophesy by Nintendo.
The original sold better in Japan than in the US, as did Super Metroid, while Metroid 2 sold about half in Japan than in the US, which is better than most games.
It wasn't until the Primes that the series got tarnished there. I guess waiting 10 years for a new game, and when one finally comes it turns out to be an FPS didn't help matters in Japan.
Add to that the GBA games getting a limited release over there for whatever reason, and you see why the series didn't set the charts on fire this past decade.
But the character of Samus remains popular over there. Other M sold a lot better than any of the Prime games, so there is still some love for the series.

You mean it sold better in Japan, right? Because it sold far less than adequately in the States. Interestingly, any time I visit a game story, the game is usually around $10. Meanwhile I remember the Prime games, particularly the first one, selling quite well.

Even as a Metroid fan, I'm fine with there being no anniversary compilation. I would love to see one of all the 2d adventures, but I still own most of those so I'm not hurting for it or anything. It's nice when these compilations are made of course, but with Nintendo's games it means I'm rebuying at least one or two games I already own so they're usually little more than collector's items for me. Glad to see Kirby get some love though.

I don't think Air Ride's gonna be on this (putting a GC game on a collection takes a tiny bit more doing than shoving old ROMs in), but I'm holding out hope that they'll include Kirby Tilt n' Tumble with Wiimote tilt control.
