Ah, Folklore. You've teased me oh so badly at E3, and now I finally get to see some gameplay footage of you. Well, now I finally get to see what Colette was talking about. This here is a collection of what was on the E3 show floor, and it's nice to finally be able to see what the little lady was talking about.

The ability to draw souls is nice, but I think that the repeated appearance of the PS3 controller would start to get annoying after a while. I just hope to God that I can turn it off. Sure, I'm looking forward to this game, but from the brief look we have here, I can't help but have images of Final Fantasy stuck in the back of my head. I hope the cutscenes can do quite a bit to change this.

I'm really hurting for a full-out trailer for the game, as opposed to this compilation of gameplay footage, which is much too brief and cut up to provide anything too solid to touch myself to. Please, give me something else to download onto my PS3! I need my RPGs. It's my crack.

[Thanks for sending this in, GoldenDonut!]

The game is just beautiful in HD.

I really enjoyed the Japanese PSN Store demo, so if you have a chance to check it out, I'd suggest doing so. It's unique, which is a rare thing among JRPGs these days.

Ah, I really need to remember to create a Japanese PSN account. Thanks for bringing that up, Lethal.

You gotta play it. The videos just don't do it justice. It feels much more like Okami than Final Fantasy, and the PS3 controller soul-jerking is much cooler than you'd think.

Yes, videos don't do it justice. The soul-jerking feels surprisingly satisfying, especially when you do like 5 at a time. Can't wait to play it and see the hundreds of weird monsters you can control.

Here's a review of the import version. The review is from Eurogamer and it's not looking good :/

Dear PS3,

See? Now that's what I'm talking about. You keep giving us stuff like this and you'll be well on your way to convincing a lot of people, such as myself, that you're actually not the overpriced doorstop that they currently perceive you to be. This is all you need to do, really, and let me just say that this is a very good start.

Sincerely,
Me.

The demo impressed me even if I had no clue what was going on. The 'shake the controller wildly' mechanic to capture a boss was pretty pointless just as the regular lassoo mechanic was surprisingly satifying.

As for that Eurogamer article, meh. I only trust reviews that have lots of good words.

I'm getting a Castlevania + Fable + Ghost Busters vibe.

Looks cool.

Sure the cutscenes look good...all cutscenes look good.

Seems like a ok game, looks like all you need to do is run around and suck up monster souls. Does anyone else think this will get old? I mean it doesn't even seem like there is anything to it. You suck a soul and move on...

Is it just me or does this game remind you of a little "gem" (and by gem I mean piece of shit) on the GCN by the name of Lost Kingdoms. I mean besides the controls, graphics, and the lack of cards it seems very similar. You go around and "capture" different monsters and such and then use their representative card (or in this case icon) to summon the monster in real time battles.

If I remember correctly it got an 8,9,8,8 from famitsu which, while good, could just be famitsu's ever-present bias towards JRPGs.

All the people that have played it say that they like it but it has flaws. Looks like you'll like the game so long as you like collect-em-up RPGs.

@Gottlieb, you suck their souls and use them against your enemies, so you will probably get caught up in finding certain beasts to conquer for your collection. So that you can erraticate the next big boss.

@lwesquire, you don't shake your hands at all, just lift the controller toward your chin, you don't even have to do it quickly. This isn't some wii boxing crap.

Gamecentral here in the UK said this was a pile of shit (well they didn't say that actually, I can't remember what they said but they scored it 5/10), and quite frankly they are never far from accurate.

One for the JRPG fans only.

(Please note GameCentral is a teletext page and they don't appear to reproduce their reviews on tha internets so I can't give anyone a link)
