If we had that judgement from the beginning games like Halo, Starcraft or even Super Mario Bros itself woul have succeed.
That being said, those few words from the developer sure as hell go a long way to convincing me that there's a kind of deliberation and thoughtfulness beyond simply capitalizing on an already-established brand. Bullshit qualifications or degrees of "originality" aside, it looks like a solid product and a good game.
Too many teams trying to be 'original'.
Not that that's a bad thing, but inspiration is certainly nothing to be scoffed at. I'm huge on inspiration.
I'm not yelling "rip off", but I think 3D platformers are simply very, very difficult to make well.
Also, they have to sell the game better. Sonic is completely different from Mario because of level design and character speed, where as this looks pretty generic with a single mechanic seperating it from a sea of generic platformers.
I don't think people would call this game a "rip-off" of Galaxy because it's a clone, I think they might do it because they can't see sufficent reason to buy it if they already own Galaxy. A "rip-off" can refer to a game that is similar enough to a popular title that one negates the need for the other, without it being a clone.
I hope Frozen North's first game does well, but I know I certainly won't buy it... then again, I have no interest in SMG2 either.
I Stopped talking to them.
