Now normally, I don't listen to anyone who calls themselves "HairyArse." The last time I did, I woke up in a pool of my own urine next to a Taiwanese prostitute who was mumbling something about pretzel dogs in broken English. Not pretty, but a good story to tell the kids. But in this case, I made an exception. A gentleman who calls himself "HairyArse" over at AllAboutTheGames has proclaimed to have solved all the whammy bar woes surrounding the recent Guitar Hero II 360 release. The fix (as detailed on the site) involves simply removing the back portion of the guitar, loosening a few screws, and hoping to God you don't accidentally break any significant components.
Being one of the unlucky few (thousand) who received a faulty guitar, I decided to give it a go. The final results were mixed.
Let me say this first -- the whammy "problem" I was experiencing was slight. Slight enough that I can use it as an excuse as to why Dtoid community member, ExpertPenguin, is ahead of me on the leaderboards; but still noticeable, nonetheless. After taking apart and tinkering with the internal whammy mechanism, I did notice a slight improvement in its performance, but nothing earth shattering.
I will still probably return it to my local GameStop, but not before opening it up again and filling it with dead cockroaches. So the final verdict -- your mileage may vary.
If you're having issues with the whammy and for whatever reason can't seem to get an exchange, go right ahead and listen to the man they call HairyArse. It's simple enough, and as long as your remember "righty tighty, lefty loosey," you've got nothing to lose. [Thanks, Mo Clippa!]

my whammy bar was screwed up to the point where you had to pull it back then push it in in order to make it... wham? anyways, I did that fix the first day I got it and the thing works perfectly now.
I guess i'll try that before returning it.
why is there a calculator? why?!
Whoa ! *dances*
What exactly was the problem people have been having with it? Because I have been using mine and it seems to work fine. Only thing is you have to push the whammy completely down to activate it, but once you do that it works just fine. idk. that seems to work for me so i'll probably keep mine.
calculator? that looks like a Motorola Moto Q smartpone in the picture. No clue why it's B&W though. also tshirt.
lol ExpertPenguin is teh prozorz at GHII :)
Yeah, one could almost say he's an "expert".
Fuck, that was goddamn retarded.
I bought the original Guitar Hero, and when I bought the sequel, I never bothered buying the pack (I just got the game and figured if I needed an extra controller, I’d buy it separately). Well, my whammy bar sinks on its own (good ol’ gravity), but at least it worked out of the box.
I hate how Activision has raised the prices...the first game + controller pack was $70, then the sequel was $80 (even though it was still on PS2), and now the next-gen version is $90? Are you kidding me? I presume that they’ll charge the same for the PS3 and 360 versions of Guitar Hero III when it comes out this fall. Bah. I don’t see why that is, especially considering that they charged an extra $20 for a controller the first time around, and that one worked just fine — why arbitrarily raise the price of the controller by $10 and now $20, when it’s effectively the same piece of hardware? Money-grubbing bastards...
nice phone. :P
It really does work. It fixed mine. It's really simple.
I actually found someone who made their own robot that controls the game...
the story from engadget.com:
Enter Guitar HeroNoid, the real robot that shreds fake axe and melts real face. Supposedly capable of seeing the screen and jamming with the best of us meatsacks, we think it's time we show these would-be robot overlords what's what. You may be more efficient at manual tasks, robots, but hell no do you have the soul of a musician. And hell no can you reach that wammy bar -- yet!
Hmm talking smack about robots playing Guitar Hero?? Does that sound like a challenge to any of you dtoiders??
I wonder if the HeroNoid has had any troubles with the new whammy bar???
1) Penguin: I need to play Motorstorm, but as soon as I'm done, you're ass is mine. Bitch.
2) It's a Q. I was reading the directions for the whammy fix off of it.
The company I bought mine from asked me to wait till they verifiably got some working stock in from Red Octane. They're being extremely awesome about this, seeing as how dickholes at other companies would just make you eat the cost of a second game to swap out guitars to return the faulty one. My game retailer is awesome.
Damn. I thought I added everyone on the destructoid GH thread, but I must have overlooked ExpertPenguin. Now I have someone to aim for.
Fixed mine with the above article..... I still suck, but at least the whammy whams :)
Yeah, I got the bad whammy. Had to take it back :( I then went to a game crazy to see if they had the good ones. The guy at the counter looked at me like an asshole when I told him I wanted to look at the back of the box at the serial numbers. When it was the 55 model, I told him no thanks. He then said in one of those huffy jerk off voices "It's only 1% of them that are defective." I then pissed on his head.
Nick, did you get the Gameplay Guarantee, or whatever it's called? If not, your warranty is only 7 days.
I took mine back on day 6, after two exchanges, when they couldn't tell me when they'd get any more, and demanded my money back. They told me absolutely not. Then I asked if I could have the district managers number.
Oddly enough, he was "on vacation", but I got my money back.
You better get on that shit quick if you didn't buy a warranty.
What, no article about how the microtransactions of GH2 on 360 are ripping you off?
HOORAY! $6.25 for THREE songs!
PS: Those 3 songs all belong to the ORIGINAL Guitar Hero, nothing new.
Prepare to bend over!
