It was inevitable, but it's good to get it confirmed, right? Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors-style take on Fist of the North Star has been confirmed for release outside of Japan. Although Koei has yet to issue an official announcement, a newspaper interview with Koei Tecmo CEO Kenji Matsubara stated implicitly that the publisher has plans for a worldwide sale.
This is the same interview in which Matsubara stated that his belief that the game will sell at least a million copies in Japan alone. The article also states that, following news of the game's development, Koei Tecmo stock raised by 17%. Looks like things are looking up for what was once two rather niche companies.
It seems that the newly formed Koei Tecmo Holdings is off to a very solid start, and I hope that they continue with the good fortune. Fist of the North Star Musou is looking great so far. Cannot wait to see more as development continues.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
No seriously, I love DW style games xD
Now I just need to see footage of boss battles. If they can make that not suck, this is all good.
Is there a cool leveling or talent/skill system, cool boss fights, or something that I'm missing in these series that addresses the repetition...? Does everyone just turn up the difficulty?
Really hoping that this is a great title though and not one that leads to boredom after the first 5-minutes.
Koei, please don't fuck this up.
I don't want this to be like previous games, where I play it for five minutes and never touch it again. The problem here is that DW games fall to heavily on the 80's beat em up design, where enemies are cardboard targets. Koei, you've got to ask yourselves a lot of questions, and better yet, the gaming community. Improvement and evolution, come from knowing the faults that you cannot see yourself.
I'm happy to see KT posting more about it, which is positive, but the proof is in the pudding, and these feel like press junkets of little to nothing. I want a game that is more like Ninja Gaiden and less like DW. One great things about Tecmo is that they know how to design good 3D game (forgive me if they are involved in this game). Just watching a video of Metroid Other M, you can see where thought has gone into it. This Fist game doesn't do the same for me. No signs of bosses, supporting characters, people on Kenshiro's side or the goal or a taster of the Fist story. The lesson here, is learn how to compile a decent video. I'm lucky enough to know a lot of the Fist story, but millions don't, and this stuff need to be in a video. Is there enough to do that kind of video and make us care and buy?
DW has been your crutch for far too long, Koei. Time to take off the plaster cast and try walking again (this is the truth that hurts, Jim), down different roads of thinking and learning. Existing in this industry is cool, and Koei have done okay it that area financially, but to never shine as brightly as you can (say a Valve, Atlus or Capcom etc) is a shame, and you'll be forgotten in the crowd of competition for mediocre, average output, that languishes in bargain bins. I'm sure none of us want that for Koei Tecmo. I'm going to try and keep my mind open though, and not rain on their parade too much, and pray they listen.
Who doesn't love the chuck?
Story-wise why do you think they keep resorting to the Three Kingdoms / Warrings States (for Samurai Warriors/Nobunaga's Ambition) well? My understanding is that Fist of the North Star is right up there in "core demographic -- read: Japanese culture -- SO immersed that no introduction is necessary."
@ Cowboy TTop
Raou, Rei, and Julia/Yuria are already confirmed. Re: the AI... as long as it's not that way in the game, "this video is not about enemies fighting back, this is about Kenshirou killing people." As for bosses, have footage of Kenshirou vs. Shin:

Also, if it's possible, can you find out about voice actors. Watch my Fist of the North Star Awesome moments on youtube
i seem to recall that pretty much everyone was a cardboard target to kenshiro...
If you want a challenge in a DW game, play it on Maniac difficulty or go after the berserked famous generals. That'll show you some difficulty.
