First wave of NXE Preview Program codes sent photo

Check your inboxes. Microsoft blasted the first wave of Xbox LIVE Preview Program codes this afternoon. According to Major Nelson, those lucky enough to be selected during this round will be able to download the update and explore the new features at some point tonight or tomorrow morning.

If you didn’t receive an e-mail yet, relax: There will be another wave of e-mails and, even better, Microsoft is still accepting Preview Program applications. Nelson says many of the applicants didn’t fill out the paperwork correctly. Whoops.

The NXE update this preview is for hits every Xbox 360 on August 11th.

I got in and to be honest... its not very exciting.

Being able to dress your avatar as LeChuck seems to be the main highlight.

I live in the UK though so i cant do all that Netflix stuff though :(

Yeah i'm in.
All I wanted to do was rub it in my friends' faces that I have an RC car for my avatar.
Which I will do in the morning.

There's more Monkey Island items available now that what you guys showed off. Like a rubber chicken with a pully in the middle!

Only worthwhile addition is the faster loading friends list. Everything else is just superficial.

I got it too. They've definitely improved the friend viewing, that's for sure. They came up almost instantly as opposed to the 1-2 minute wait.

Netflix parties are pretty great. Me and Grim just watched Groundhog Day. Only problem was that the host of the Netflix party seems to encounter some serious voice lag with other people in the party. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

I got it too! Friends loaded much faster. And there's that new "Achievement Progress" section that shows completed games and total gamerscore. But That's pretty much it though.

i have it and i must say i'm slightly disappointed. i'm tempted to buy the warthog RC car but $4... seriously?!? and i thought we were supposed to be able to browse available content for instant play for netflix too. the other thing that seemed interesting to me is also not available yet, which is the avatar awards. i do like that they made the guide achievement browsing more similar to the way it is in the dashboard though.

I can wait. After proving that they can roll out a new feature set without fucking up the launch, like they did with the NXE update, I'm more reassured that XBL won't be jacked up the day of the launch.

@GoS (or whomever)

Can I get more info about the Achievement Progress section? It shows "completed games", ie 1000/1000 or 200/200 point games for the user? What about with games like Fable 2/Fallout 3, does that require the expanded number of points with DLC, then?

Thanks!

It's more like an overall thing. You know how when you click on the slide dealy with your avatar standing in front of it and you get that long list of games you've played?

Well now the first little slide now shows total gamerscore. So mine shows somthing like "50000/80000 Gamerscore" "2000/3000 Achievements" "26 game complete" and it shows the picture for the completed games.

It also still shows the individual games too.

I hope that was a good enough description for you.

Oh, and I assume it requires the full 1750/1750 or whatever the games are currently at because Gears 2 doesn't show up and I have over 1000GS in that one. But yes, it shows the completed 1000/1000 or 200/200 games.

Pretty sure it was the full 1000/200 BEFORE DLC. So you could technically have over 1000 in gears thanks to dlc (like I do), but if you don't have all the ORIGINAL achievements, it won't 100%.
So if you 100% say, Oblivion, but never got or got all the achievements in Shivering Isles, it would come up as complete.

X button to eject the disc tray. Queue Netflix movies from the 360. Netflix Parties. Automatically go back into a party you dropped from (hardly a fix). Color customize "some" avatar clothes (2 I believe).

It was a healthy little update. I have nothing to complain about. Didn't need a code emailed to me either. ;)

Any avatar items for 20 moonbucks? I have to get rid of it. Random amounts annoy me.

It seems to take DLC into account unfortunatley. I got 1000/1000 on Halo but haven't got all the new achievements and its not showing up as complete.

Yeah, didn't require a code. Got an email telling me I'd be notified when it was ready for download. Last night was working on my home network, went to do a connection check on xbox live, and when it began it notified me of a system update, which, of course, was the preview. Never got a notification email.

Netflix queue from the Xbox is very exciting (requires an update of the Netflix software itself AFTER the dash update).

They cleaned up/prettied a few screens, such as when you select a game from your games library.

I had lots of trouble with voice on party chat last night, but I'm almost willing to blame my friend's connection for that. I think it's buggered.

I got the email that said I'd get another email to let me know when I can download it. I got on a little after getting it and played some 'Splosion Man and Oblivion...and then logged off for the night to watch Deadliest Catch. I'll have to check to see if it downloads today after work.

It says on Microsoft's Connect website that I'm participating in it, so does that mean the next time I turn on my console, it will update it?

Edit: I have received the update. My mate turned it on this morning, and it updated. Nothing much has changed, very disappointed.

That "rejoining dropped parties" thing sounds great, because that has been a major annoyance for me lately. I can wait a few weeks for the update, though.

I really don't care that much about dressing my avatar. I got him to look like Thom Yorke the way he is now so I'm just leaving it that way.
