Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Sony has released the first screens and artwork from the forthcoming Warhawk expansion pack, Omega Dawn, and I've made the decision that I want it. Damn it.

For $7.99, you get the new "Omega Factory" map which can be played in six different map configurations. Additionally, the screens show off the dropship we previously revealed, the KT-424. According to the official Sony fact sheet, the massive KT-424 acts "as a multiplayer Boss character," and "creates memorable moments where seven players are operating in smooth coordination." Or you know, just seven people bitching at the each other. Take your pick.

The full fact sheet for the booster pack (which will be available in December) can be found after the jump.

The heart-pounding, gut-wrenching thrill of Warhawk will get even more intense this December with Operation: Omega Dawn, Warhawk’s first downloadable Booster pack.  Developed by Incognito Entertainment, the highly-anticipated add-on pack will redefine team tactics in Warhawk and introduce a host of new strategic elements.  Featuring an entirely new battlefield, "Omega Factory," in which Eucadians and Chenovans are fighting for control, Operation: Omega Dawn includes six map configurations where warhawks can take flight through the night skies of an isolated factory world.  Adding to the intensity, players can board the KT-424 Combat Dropship – a supreme vehicle that can transport up to seven troopers and a ground vehicle at one time, allowing for massive invasions on enemy territories.  The Dropship act as a multiplayer Boss character, similar to those found in single player games, and creates memorable moments where seven players are operating in smooth coordination.  Available exclusively for download at the PLAYSTATION®Store, Operation: Omega Dawn adds new layer of strategy and depth to the fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping gameplay experienced in Warhawk.

KEY FEATURES
Invade Enemy Territories with the PMC-Dropship – Utilizing the tactical and physical capabilities of the new KT-424 Combat Dropship, players can swarm into enemy territories with a vengeance and dominate alongside their clan.  Both an aircraft and a ground vehicle, the Dropship is the ultimate destructive weapon for massive assaults.  Lined with powerful turrets for transported soldiers, the Dropship can carry up to seven troops and ground vehicles at one time.

Dominate Opponents on a Brand New Battleground – Enter at your own risk into the new, night-time battlefield for Warhawk, Omega Factory.  The largest map to date, the new environment leads troopers into an eerily dark factory world that includes six battlefield layouts and supports all of your favorite game modes from the original game.
More Vertical Gameplay – Players’ fighting skills will be put to the ultimate test as the new map features more vertical gameplay, allowing for intense aerial combat via warhawks and the Dropship.  The new map features environments that can only be accessed by airborne deployment such as raised platforms and rooftops of enormous war factories.
Bonus Layouts for the Dropship – Experience total domination with bonus layouts that integrate the new KT-424 Combat Dropship into the 5 largest layouts from the core game for added replay value.

I like having both an airship and a ground vehicle, makes the experience more immersive... and you can get around faster too which is nice...looks pretty cool

the shame of it is, that by making it cost money, they're splitting their already (somewhat) small audience.

I'd like to get it, but I'll see what others are doing first.

i think this is really nice. really mixes things up from the original game. charging is going to make things interesting with some people not buying it and other buying it, but i this this is good news.

hey, it keeps the development team in a semi steady job for longer. [:

The best game on the PS3 {in my humble opinion } just got better. They can't bring this fast enough for me!! More Vehicles to "mine" up.

I'm with you bhive, though on the plus side, this will bring a lot of us (i.e. me) who have been lost to other games back to the fold... I know I'm getting it, WNW crowd, your thoughts?

Do I have to pay to use the drop ship or are we only paying for the map update?

I will most certainly be getting this the day it comes out. That is, if I’m not playing CoD 4, Uncharted, or Rock Band (I don’t have the latter two games yet, but I most likely will own them by the time the booster pack comes out).

Wow, I just looked at the new map’s layout...it’s going to take a damn long time to learn the ins and outs of that one completely. Also, I hope they’ll release some more details on the dropships; I have a few specific questions:

1) Do the dropships have weapons of their own, or are they solely for transport?
2) How much damage can a dropship take? Obviously, it’ll be more than a Warhawk, but I’m not expecting it to be able to take nearly as much damage as a tank.
3) How do the dropships control, i.e., what kind of maneuvering can you do in mid-air, how fast are they, etc.?

sounds cool.. BUT.. don't you think us warhawkers deserve this for free w/all of the stat and server problems the first few months after being released?

i won't buy it but i'd download it if it was free...

@seamonkey420

I think all Pcaks should be handled the way the gears pack was.I have no personal experience with it, but it just sounds like a good idea. Charge at first, then a few months later make it free to everyone.

I'm going to guess that it has weapons. The blog post that announced this mentioned that they had a "boss" battle type scenario in mind when designing it. Suposedly it will take coordination on the part of the other team to take one down.
